I know there are a number of people on this board who think global warming is not happening, or even is a government/media conspiracy.
I suggest you read this article: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/cbc/080729/canada/technology_iceshelf_fracture I've posted the highlights below:
The fracture of a four-square-kilometre chunk of ice from the largest remaining ice shelf in the Arctic last week is a one-way change brought on by warming temperatures, says a scientist who has studied the process.
Derek Mueller, a polar scientist and research fellow at Trent University, in Peterborough, Ont., said the ice breaking off from the Ward Hunt Island Ice Shelf, just north of Ellesmere Island, marks the continuation of a process that has been years in the making.
"Ice shelves don't just break up. There's no karate chop," he said. "This is the result of a gradual weakening over time as a result of warming temperatures."
An expedition by U.S. explorer Robert Peary in 1906 put the size of the Ellesmere Island Ice Shelf at just under 9,000 square kilometres. The ice shelf has since broken up into smaller pieces, the largest of which is the Ward Hunt Island Shelf. The total area of all of these pieces is now less than 900 square kilometres.
Mueller said if year-to-year warming wasn't occurring, Arctic researchers would have been able to detect some renewal of ice during the winter months, either through thickening of the ice or the spread of the shelves. But researchers haven't seen any sign of renewal, he said.
"This is a one-way change," he said.

Did you read the report of vocanic activity in that area under the oceans? Just like Millions of years ago when the planet was much warmer and wetter.

So what? This has happened before ya know? The world is constantly changing, new species are always forming and more going extinct. Are we suppossed to be expected to stop allof that? That would make us GOD not human. We could all park our cars forever and go back to nature, this warming would still happen. Then comes the ice age again....it's a cycle, like winter, spring, summer, fall. You can't stop it. It's happened since the birth of the earth.

Sunsilver,
Global warming is happen regards to what anyone says. It's happening.
Were seeing more catastrophic Hurricanes such as Hurricane Wilma, Hurricane Katrina and hurricane Ivan and so on. Checkout the montages from previous hurricanes http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic/archive/montage/montage.html if you want to see it for yourselves. If you want to get into further details look like 'Super' Typhoon Ioke (A CAT5 Hurricane)
it was the strongest Typhoon to hit the pacific oceans in more than a decade and it was only 2006 when it happen! This puppy packed on winds of 220MPH! according to the Enhanced Fujita Scale a 220MPH is ranked as an EF5 tornado! Just imagine what kind of damage that this Typhoon can do to residential areas!
Another Link of interests of how many tornadoes were produced over the years.
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/efscale/ Look at the scale and see it for yourself.
Let's not forget the Greensburg tornado
GREENSBURG EF-5 TORNADO KSN LIVE (Part1)
GREENSBURG EF-5 TORNADO KSN LIVE (Part2)
Call Vice president Al Gore crazy but I stand behind him 100% on the global warming issue.

Gore's an idiot trying to sell hybred cars. Sure global warming is real, it's just not caused by us evil humans! LOL No ammount of green living is going to make it go away, it will get warmer, the polar caps will melt, the earth will shift and then the temps will drop again and it will be fuzzy slipper time! Holy crap the continents are still shifting too, can we staple them down so the US stays right here? Maybe we should try corking the valcanos too! Humans are cute thinking it all revolves around them. Hee hee hee

4pack, your posts here are excellent as usual. This environmentalism, green stuff is of the same ilk as the current frenzy by institutions of govt and the private corp financed foundations on "diversity" and "political correctness", both hard core communist concepts emanating from Lenin. The purpose of all this is to turn truth upside-down, destroy the fabric of our society, breed a world wide fascist global society of worker bees with a few overlords of the "chosen ones" (ie these folks are run by the int'l banksters and their related corps such as the "borman group of 750 corps). The science used by these twisted sisters is surely perverse and designed to trash everything decent folks in the USA believe in.Increased CO2 is very good for plants. That's why they call it the "greenhouse effect". Plants should have rights too if these environmentalists really believe what they spout (they don't). Most animal welafre groups are of the same ilk, merely cover for perverse political and anti-republic manipulations as part of the globalist agenda. Scientific facts show that there are natural cycles to the earth's climate. And right now the sun is givving off a bit more heat to the earth which has nothing to do with carbon units. Air particulates and smog tend to cool the ground, not heat it. That is why when there is a large particulate cloud over a large portion of the earth due to a large volcano, the earths temperature tends to drop a small, but measurable amount.
Now the same groups that created lead in gasoline, mercury in vaccinations and cavities, flouride in city water, and MSG and aspartame in food products now push for severe restrictions on energy usage. If they were really serious they would stop pushing all these poisonous additives, and especially the so called oxidizers in gasoline used in some states and have proven highly toxic. I for one have had enough lies about this stuff. And this crap about a so-called oil shortage. There is no shortage but there is an oil glut. Anyone who has studied or worked in the oil business knows that this is all "marketing talk" and that oil has always been used as a geopolitical/economic weapon of war. It is now being used as a weapon of war against the American people to destroy our republic and meld us into the upcoming North American Union (NAU). The average person has been fed mostly lies from public schools and universities and the five major media about this stuff. We know that the five major mass media are owned by large int'l coprps, mostly defense contractors and now 70-80% of all US book publishing is controlled by corporations committed to a one world globalist financial system run out of Germany and Belgium.

Anyone who has studied the Kyoto agreement and otyhers like it quickly understand that China and other up and comers are encouraged to keep polluting the air and the USA, UK and the like are to be restricted industrially to the point they will be guraenteed to live with perpetual depressions. Folks, this environmentalism greenstuff ideology is a high tech mind kontrol technique (new age propoganda) to be used to con and manipulatethe citizens, take away everything they worked their whole lives for including their jobs and homes and reduce the world people to masses of poor, dependent "worker bees". It is being promoted as a new religion of the masses. Of course one can read how this was predicted in the "iron Mountain Report" which the establishment now says was not authentic (It was). Read it, you will start to understand what is really going on.

For those of you who think the sky is falling, I suggest you study more earth history/science. Then you will see that throughout the eons earth has experienced warming and chilling, warming and chilling. Do you remember their used to be glaciers thousands of years ago across most of what is now North America? Do you know, for example about the contributions to earths' atmospheric science of El and La Ninas? Have you ever heard of the "little chill" when thousands in Europe perished becuase of failed crops? There is some contribution from man-made activities, but in fact, the main greenhouse gas of concern is not even ever mentioned. People want to believe what they want to believe and shallow science, or worse yet, pseudo-science leads to poor understandings and solutions for real problems. The average person in the US has such a poor education that they could not understand the science if it was put in front of their face.
And yes, China and other emerging nations have such severe pollution problems because of their outdated and behind the curve technology that all combined the US and most European nations don't even come close. Of course, we should all consider the earth we live on. But there are things that most people could do to help but they don't because they read all this bunk.
