On Sunday I recieved a call from another breeder friend and she saked if I could break her dog while she drove out to Indiana to pickup a sick pup that she sold earlier in the week. Well everything was going smoothly and had 2 female out together, when I went to let them in ,one of them charged the run of another females run. She hit the gate so hard she spun the latch around and the next thing they were fighting. All of you know how female fight. Anyway I finally got them apart and back in their runs when I discovered that I had been bit, not just once but 8 times. After spending the afternoon in the ER and numerous stiches I was released. Animal control showed up and wanted me to release the info on the dogs and the kennel that this happened at. Of coarse I refused due to it not being the dogs fault or the owners or mine and why should the dogs and their owner be punished. So needless to say I had a eventful Sunday.

You are lucky you only have the wounds you do. Trying to break up a dog fight, especially between females can end up with you being seriously injured. I hope you get better soon, and I hope you also learned a lesson so you are never hurt like this again.
Good luck and be sure you finish your antibiotics!

So what lesson was there to learn? Let them kill each other. Or say no I won't help you with your dogs. It was the latch that spun it wasn't that I let the 2 dogs out together and they started fighting. If it wasn't for the dog bouncing off the gate of the other dog this wouldn't have happened.

You gotta check your kennels every once in a while and do routine maintainance.

Hey Ghostly, I think Hodie didn't read your words correctly. I did. I was involved in a freak accident that warranted 12-15 stitches on one arm. I had a worker accidently open a gate to get a board out of a large run I had a rescued husky in. He forgot to put the carabiner (sp?) back on. He lifted up the hasp and met my dream team Xaver vom Kammberg, and Bessy vom Schiffwiler Land (in season). My worker was afraid to get involved.........but I said pull him off like a wheelbarrow, with another neighbor using a hose (in vain) The rescued (freshly nuetered) dog did the biting, Mister came off slower than I would have liked, by command, Bessy went to the other side of the yard.
What did I learn?.............Make sure your workers don't sneak off to the store for a beer during their scheduled work time. I wear the Dunce Hat, ultimately! I also learned that duct tape is awesome for keeping the wounds intact, and NOT to go to emergency....but to other clinic type places where they can stitch you up just as efficient only faster! Thanks for sharing your story Ghostly.

I had a similar thing Happen with 2 Males. I was Showing my Sister in Law , who was going to watch over my crew while I was going to be out of Town. Right after I told her who and who not to let together she with out thinking Opened a kennel to a male that could not be with the Male I had out. Well, you guessed it, " A Fight " .
The thing I have learned over the years is to Always Grab Tails. Pick the Dog that is less likely to come back on you, and Grab the tail, and drag them towards the kennel that is open. Dragging one of the dogs in the kennel with you. Then, use the kennel door to Break the Heads apart, as you are yelling " out " or Let Go , what ever !
Needless to Say, she felt Horrible, but definately learned from that experience, and later it helped her out in a situation, she was in at one of the rescues she worked at. And she was known to be able to handle the Scary Dogs.
Sorry to hear about your injuries. And Good for you , for not letting out the dogs or owners info out.

My boys and I were doing some yard work and I had asked my youngest son to let the dogs out one at a time. I had 3 bitches at that time. Well, he went right down the row of their crates and let each female out! I had a heck of a fight going on! One bitch went and jumped in the middle of the koi pond, knowing no one would come after her in there and then my other 2 went at it! We managed to do the wheel barrel maneuver and no people got bit! I think bitches are the worst about fighting!
Hope you feel better soon! It happens to everyone at least once!

Sorry to here about your troubles, my female is always to pitts to break up when she gets into it. If you put a clip in the kennel latch it will keep it from spinning around on you and hopefully you wont have that situation again.

Scary! Hope you get better soon. I've only owned males in the past and currently have a female. Just curious what's the difference re: fighting?
