sorry...it's off topic, but Earthquakes are such a rush that I had to post.  My dog didn't care...what a good boy.

Must be minimal damage---you're still online. I lived in Vegas when the Northridge EQ happened, knew it was bad right away, we felt it strongly in Vegas, & I couldn't contact any of my Ca friends......Good luck! jh

That is a significant earthquake. We will monitor. Stay out of harms way! Glad you are ok.

I went through Sylmar, Northridge, Landers, Hector Mine and family went through them in SF and SD area.

Because I live in California,  I was given a piece of advice that I thought was great...

In the event of "the Big One...", land lines and cell phones will have a hard time getting through WITHIN  the state, but usually won't have issues calling OUT of state.   It was recommended to find a family member/friend that lives OUT of state to be the contact person.  For instance, I would call the out of state person and let them know I was OK...  and anyone else with the contact persons number would/should do the same.  Then at least the contact person could let us know who called in and their status.  This eliminates the wondering how your family/friends in the same area are in case you can't get thru to them.

Not sure if it works... haven't had to try it yet

(Glad your people are all accounted for JL)

God bless you all......we were hundreds of miles away in '93, & we were really stressed out; & we were very dumb, stood by our chattering sliding glass doors to watch our inground pool slosh back & forth. Duh! Hope you are all OK-.pray no big aftershocks! jh

we felt it up here in Lancaster, CA pretty nicely....it was long enough up here that we got up and ready to move to safer area....had the feelings of the beginning of the northridge (remember how it started small for a bit then hit hard?) so had us a little edgy for a few seconds there. Had friends/family closer and so far so good.

After the northridge earthquake all of us called to grandpa in Utah to check in and it worked much better then trying to reach anybody IN the state. Had to keep checking in because as everyone finished, those that called first still hadn't heard from those who called later. We were the last to get really through after about 2 days (we had to move, apartment was tagged). With this current one, though it felt mild up here, it was about 10 minutes before our cell phones or landlines could go through to other places up here, and about 25 minutes before I could reach my mom down in Culver City area.
