AgarPhranicniStraze1

by AgarPhranicniStraze1 on 29 July 2008 - 05:07

I just had to share this story with all of you because it completely took me by surprise.

Our inground pool was not quite ready to be swam in today but the kids just couldn't wait so the pool contractor told them they could get in and swim.  He took the plywood off the walk in steps and let them go to town.  Next thing I know Agar and Rosa just helped themselves to go right in and started swimming like they were golden retrievers. lol

Next thing I know my older daughter swam into the deep end (8ft) and she was doggie paddling in one place and goofing around with her younger sister.  I was watching from nearby as I was watering my flowers and I saw Agar  swimming out to the deep end after her when he wrapped his mouth around her wrist and started dragging her by the arm back to the shallow end.  My daughter got frightend and started yelling "Mom he's trying to bite me" and I immediately drew my attention to what was going on only to find him trying to bring her back to a "safe" place.

I think he really thought she was in trouble and went out there to try to save her.  He would never ever try to hurt one of the kids and his demeanor was in no way agressive but the more she paniced and tried to pull her arm away from him screaming I think it made him more concerned that she was in trouble.  So I told her to relax he was not trying to bite her but trying to bring her back to the shallow end.  As soon as she calmed down and stopped fighting him he was completely happy to "rescue" her and proudly got out of the pool looking at me like "Geezzz what's HER problem, I was just trying to be helpful for Pete's sake". LOL

I knew these dogs were intelligent but I would have never expected that in a million years.

That's awesome Agar, looks like you have a great dog. Now you know he will do what is necessary to keep your children safe without having to be told. That was his unconditional love for his family. Be proud and keep loving him for the outstanding dog he is. They are really smarter than we think....

A good story.

I am not suprised at all.    This is what defines a German Shepherd to me.  You have a true GSD, no title's or bloodline's can prove a dog like what you just described.

Congratulation's.

Wow another great story  what a wonderful boy I bet he got big tummy scratches!! this is why I love the breed it is inbuilt to look after their own and have a brain capable of doing so a GSD is truly one in a million!

Thank you for sharing!

It's not uncommon- I have a number of clients whose dogs throw a fit when they get to the deep end of their pool's especially when it involves children squealing and splashing. They are really amazing animals.

I'm not impressed at all!  Sounds like a GSD to me.  When he starts using the pool skimmer, give me a call.

Just kiddin'.  Did ya give the boy a nice reward?

Great story.

When you have friends kids over using the pool you may want to make sure Agar doesn't think the other kids are in distress.

Just recently on my local news station (I believe it went national )had a German shepherd who would not let his owners go to the deep end of the pool without saving them. I forgot the dogs name but it's great to see these kind of programs on TV news.

Maybe these discriminators who bans German shepherds from certain RV parks and so on can review the true German shepherds.

What a good boy Agar is! He deserves a HUGE reward :)
