Hi everyone,

Katie seems to be much better today!  She ate half a split chicken breast for breakfast before she started spitting out pieces.  She will drink small amounts of water, must be freshly made w/ice.  Her attitude is much better as well.  Saturday night my mom had dinner w/us and she did not even lift her head to acknowledge her.  She's back on patrol, the highlight of her day is being a shark at the door, then she goes get her ball to play w/visitors, go figure.  I'm taking her back to the vet for more bloodwork just to see if there are any changes since Fri. results.  During all of this she always had normal bowel movements although none since Sat. but then not much food in her, she has also been peeing regularly and her temp has been normal.  I am not quite ready to do the happy dance, but I am going to go look for my dancing shoes just in case.  I want to thank everyone that responded w/kind thoughts, prayers and words of wisdom.  Katie may not have the best pedigree although her dad w/a working sheriffs dog with the best nose in the state of Maine and some of her littermates did go to sheriffs depts.  She is all black, long back, small head and big ears!  She bonded to me and I to her from the day I took her home.  She would only play w/my husband if I was in the room for instance.  She loves to do ob work and will jump up & down and cry w/excitement if I take out her training collar.  When we went to see Serena at the shelter I walked Katie into the training room and even though I had not worked her for a year she walked in at a perfect heel and sat looking at me when I stopped.  Everyone at the shelter was amazed by her and her condition for her age, they even checked her teeth!  When I left the room to fill out paperwork she calmly sat at the door and waited for me to return.  She is an amazing friend.  Thank you all!

Good news Marilyn. Here's hoping she continues to improve. Do watch what you feed as based on what you said before, she might have had a little bout of pancreatitis. Check with your vets on how to feed. Best of luck with her. It also appears you have several good options for help with the younger dog. Let me know again if I can help.
