A friend and I went this weekend to a AKC Rally show and tried all three days which is nothing huge.

But my friend (Stephenie)  only this year started to train her 3 yr old female and earned her CGC. Then about two months ago, I talked her in to training for her Rally Novice title on both her 3 yr old female and her 8 month old male. So this weekend we went . She had never been to a AKC Obedience/Rally event and did not know what to expect. She was stressed out to say it nicely but handled it like a pro. She was not only handling one dog BUT two to make matters worse in the same show!. She earned a leg on her female before we noticed that her female was starting her heat and had to stop. BUT she EARNED ALL THREE LEGS in three days!!!!!! earning her first title!!!!!!!! on a eight month old!

I am so excited for her!!!

Now she is talking about earning more titles.

The training -  titling bug has biten yet another one !!!!!!

Ok I am done bragging

Ps I also earned my RN title :)

EK - That's great. It is always refreshing to see people training and trialing their own companions no matter what venue. Especially when they are a "newbie' and it gets them bitten by the bug!!!

Congrats to you both!

Rally is an awesome sport for novices but also experienced handlers with young dogs. I think it's a great introduction to a ring environment without the rigidity of formal obedience, and thus prevents young dogs from getting "ring wise".  I think it's equally important for all types of european GSDs to be seen in AKC venues. Congratulations to you both!

Congrats to you both.  I also think it's important to get those European dogs out there.

Way to create obedience addict EK!  That’s almost better than the new title…which is pretty darn cool to start with!  Here's hoping everyone has a supportive friend.

Congratulations to both of you!

EK:

Congratulations on your new title and your friends.  A few months ago I talked my friend into trying Rally with her rescued Rotti.  She was so nervous, but did very well.  She earned her RN Title last month and I was so happy for her. I think I was more excited for her than when I got my first akc title.  It is so much more fun going to events with a good friend and enjoying their accomplishments.

Keep up the good work and recruiting more friends to work with their dogs!  Don't forget to try Rally Advanced. It only has a few more exercises than the novice, but is off leash.

That's great news, congratulations!

It is a challenge also, making sure your female isn't in heat at the
obedience shows, I got Sam's last leg for companion dog, then a
few days later she was in heat, I hope to get her CDX soon.
