Has anyone seen this before, just curious if genetic trait.
I have one dog whose undercoat will kink and curl when wet and cause the top coat to lift up and open. I know it curls because I pulled some out once when he was wet and it was all kinky.
Normally the dog has a good tight topcoat - and a harsh one [on the verge of wiry] but when water actually penetrates to the skin, he becomes more of a wooly dog than I have typically seen.
My other dog has undercoat but is more like an otter when wet - coat still lays down.

Hi Nancy
My lovely old chap, Jack had a curly coat! On top of that many of the individual (rather wiry) hairs from his wither to his croup were tri-couloured. When wet, he looked as though he'd had a perm' down his back with a few highlights!
He was by Pinedo Luger at Caemaen out of Sherbas Banshee so... mainly German breeding. As far as I know he was the only one in his litter with such a coat.
