Ok - I know the Schutzhund crowd doesn't need a Harness but for those who do AKC, etc Tracking, may I ask what your favorite harness is and why. I have a couple old ones but am looking to replace them with another Leather Harness that softens well (I'm not really into the stiff leathers).

Thanks

Hi K9Mom,

I'm sure there are many who know more than me but for what it is worth I use a siwash harness, distinguishable by the 'V' on the dog's chest, as it distributes the weight nicely.  A siwash harness needs to be fitted so it doesn't sit on the dog's shoulders.  See http://www.dogworks.com/fittingtheharness.html.  Believe it or not I actually prefer the padded nylon because it handles being wet, dirt and cleaning far better than leather.  They sure can get stinky!!

Happy tracking

I have this one from fordogtrainers.com

http://www.fordogtrainers.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=396

I really love it! and they will custom make it to fit your dog's measurements. Its all weather, water proof and has one clip to attach. You can pull with it as well if you want and the handle on the top is perfect to grab and redirect when training.

I know the tracking purists will gag but our search team has one, by one,  mostly moved to this harness for our trailing dogs:

Dog trailing comfortably for long periods of time in it and dogs who pull hard into it. Washable in the machine. One snap.

Mine are bespoke by my saddler. One dog's is over 12 years old and beautiful.

I've had mine nearly nine years and have used it with three different dogs and it's still in great shape.  You can flip it so the ring is on the top, or under the chest.  Excellent quality for the cost.

Lds leather company - www.ldsleather.com

Everything is custom-I requested  3/4 inch bands instead of 1 inch - couldn't find it anywhere else

Very nice small company w/ quality work.

I've bought a ton of gear from fordogtrainers.com and I've been pleased as punch for all of it. Everything I've bought from them is high quality and fairly priced. We've bought both a traditional leather breast harness and a Bottcher, and both are first rate. Buy with confidence, darlin'... Yvette
