Limp on front leg... Update

Took Orson in to the vet today to get to the bottom of the limp he's had for the last 2 weeks. Took X-rays of both front legs and found no defects or Pano. Vet says elbows look perfect and figures his limp is most likely a soft tissue injury in his wrist. No free running or jumping for 1 week and she figures he should be good as new. 8 months old today and he weighed 92lbs. Vet says he has no "extra" weight on him and to keep doing what we are, and he will stop growing whenever he's done. He might be "too big" but we still love him, and he makes me laugh everyday!

I had a sets of x-rays done on my pup and when he was no better I took him back and my dogs doctor did another set and she saw pano. So, one vet might not see it but another can. Either way, if it is pano it will go away in its own time. As long as he's eating and drinking normally, just let him rest. JM2C

What a relief hear that there are no defects. Hopefully with a little rest he will be fine. Hard to keep a pup from running and juimping though. My boy is 7 months and a little smaller at 75 pounds and has a bit of Pano that flares up for a day or so.

I'd like to toot my own horn here - I was the one who sai it was a soft tissue sprain. Pano normally presents itself on both sides. I'll leave room for error here on a misdiagnosis because my pup was misdiagnosed twice. I used ascription, 1 tablet per day crushed in the food with my pup and it helped her.

My pups pano was only in his hind left leg and that was all. Once it was gone in that leg it never came back. Fingers crossed it doesn't show up again. Really strange though that he had it at 10 weeks. He was really big boned though.
It lasted for aprox. 3-4 weeks. Since then, no problems.

thanks for the update, I am reliefed to hear that it seems "only" a tissue injury. At least now you have a peace of mind.

Thats good to hear when my boy was a pup the pano ran through every leg but hes now 11 and since the was a youngster no problems

Inasmuch as the cause of pano in unknown, how does a vet diagnose it with an x-ray?

Turk, pano doesn not necessarily present itself on both sides; one of the hallmarks of the condition is that the lameness often shifts from leg to leg as the pup grows.

My vet pressed his leg bone up and down the whole leg a few times until she got to the spot that caused him pain. Did the same to the opposite leg and got no response. So on the x-rays in the spot that was causing him pain there was a little shadow of what looked like a thumb print on the bone. That's what she was looking at.

My vet, a recognized ortho surgeon here in the midwest, did the same thing albeit without the x-ray.
