I can't resist posting a few words about the products I am using from K9 Power. (www.k9power.com) I started my old dog on "Young at Heart" about 5 weeks ago, just as a test and because I pulled him out of retirement to compete again. Frankly he was bored and getting fat. laying around the house. The difference in his energy and stamina levels, coat condition is nothing short of amazing. I'm thinking I'll order extra for myself from now on...
I also use K9 Super Fuel for my dogs in intense training/conditioning, with appreciable results, Show Stopper for the show dogs, Joint Strong, and a lot of Go-Dog in the warm weather. (Yes, I have been known to dip into the Go Dog myself. It tastes ok and gives me the same good results as it does the dogs) Super results all the way around!
Sure, a good feeding program is essential for any dog, but no matter what I am feeding each dog in my program, the addition of these supplements always improves my results, has for years I love it when people come up to me and ask me "what I put on my dogs' coats to make them so shiny and soft." I don't put anything on them, its all done from the inside out. Can't beat John Sequino's service either. No matter if I call in an order on a weekday or on the 4th of July, it arrives at my door about 48 hrs. later.
No, I am not getting any special consideration for posting this message. Just a few good words, credit where credit's due, for something/somebody that truly desrves them.

I will be glad to sell you a nice bridge in the desert. People believe what they expect to believe and see what they want to see. But if you like spending money on such products, do it. The real science is not there to support claims either in humans or animals, but the "supplement" industry, barely regulated, steams on and is about as bogus as additives from China. Bogus supplementation is potentially filled with difficulty for the one ingesting it.

I've been looking into a good joint supplement for one of my girls, thansk for the referral, I'll look into it.

I believe if you feed a well balance diet then there should be no real need for all the supplements. My dogs look so good that clients were asking what I was using for my food and supplements. After telling them that raw is really not that much more expensive, but is more time comsuming then plooping a bowl of dry down. Now a couple weeks later they are starting to see the difference and they enjoy the money that they are saving.
But to each is their own.

I am using Showstopper for my dogs, even though from a different source than stated. I even saw it at Petco recently.
I have seen a remarkable difference in my male. He is or was supposed to be allergic against chicken/beef, and I have him on LID venison/potatoe. But started feeding him Showstopper as I didnt believe the Vets reasoning. He has done very well on it and all his skin issues subsided. And I proved a point as Showstopper is all about Chicken/Beef and their fats, oils, minerals. Stubborn headed me.....

One look at my dogs before and now tells the story. No one who has seen them over the last few months has failed to mention how much better they are looking (not that they looked that bad to begin with) with no mention of it from me till queried. Teh couple with dry coats are growing in beautiful "bloomy" hair that looks almost wet its so shiny. Fat dogs and the bad doer (hard to keep weight on) are muscling up, energy levels over the top, old dogs moving like somebody took half their years back. They aren't all on the same food, some eat raw, each dog's diet is specifically tailored to that dog's particular needs, intensity of training schedule, life staqe, etc. so "basic diet" doesn't explain the unilateral improvements.
I used Peak Products for years when I was training and conditioning a lot of dogs back in CA with the same impressive results. I got away from it when I got out (more or less) of the sport for a few years, only getting serious about the finer points now that I am competing on a regular basis again. Nice to note the stuff still works.
I don't believe there is any one "nutritionally complete" diet plan for any dog, or any other domestic animal for that matter. If there were, top racing trainers would not be supplementing their race horses' feed. If they animals were foraging in the wild, they'd be eating all kinds of things they don't get in captivity as their natural instincts and systems dictated. (Yes, dogs do eat berries, carrots, corn, and a lot of other things when their bodies tell them they need something contained in those items...) The products I mentioned seem to even out the difference between what is in the dog food, raw diet, we offer... and what isn't.

We had a Golden Retriever who was around 11 years old when she started having itching, brittle coat and was moving gingerly, getting up of her hind quarters slower. We put her on Young at Heart and a month later we couldn't believe the difference.
I'm just damned glad I didn't start out thinking she'd get worse on it and looking for poor results. Poor old thing could have ended up with emphysema and bald spots.

My Carol, nearing age 8, looks and acts half his age on Young at Heart. don't believe me? Lok for him in the Veteran's Class at the Canadian Sieger show in a couple of weeks. He runs six blinds in 90F like nothing these days, plenty left afterwards. He's driving me nuts wanting to go out and train several times a day, when only 5 weeks ago he was content to lay in front of the tube and let the young dogs take the field. If I leave him loose in the house when they are on the field, he now tears up the window sills.
My hubby is NOT amused.
