I know this is a GSD site but the lab one ain't so great, anyway..........
This morning my yellow lab Harold Big Head got loose, not sure how long he was gone, But,
long enough to devour ALL the leftovers of ALL the neighbors trash, I don't believe I've ever
seen such a large amount of food in a dogs stomach!
When big head came home, I told my daughter to feed him, cause he's actually her dog, she
gave him his Canidae, he devoured that, then threw up, and crapped, I think he was about
ready to explode, we rushed him to the vets and after an x-ray, she said it's not bloat, it's just
that he's too full.
Harold went from weighing normally about 73 pounds to a hefty 90.6 pounds!!!!
So after paying $ 184.00 Big Head is resting comfortable!!
I'm very happy it wasn't bloat, case closed!

My friends chocolate lab did the same thing with the neighbors hunting dogs food. The neighbor free fed his dogs in 5 gal buckets, and my friends dog went and cleaned it out. It looked like he swollowed the whole plastic bucket too..
$1200 later, the dog was fine. They didnt know what the cause was, until the neighbor came over complaining..
Must me a lab thing.. hehe.. I am really glad your Big Head is okay and it was only $184

Thanks Kim!,
There's worse things in life,
I feel like I was pleasantly surprised,
and the best part is I was expecting to pay $300.00 right off the bat for an emergency call,
and then the x-rays and just putting us ahead of everyone else............
Bloat is a very serious thing, where minutes count and your dogs life depends on it, I
have never had a dog that suffered from bloat, ever, but I do know minutes count, and
false alarms feel real good!

You're a lucky one!! No, not Bloat. Bloat is when the stomach fills with gas and torsion is the act of the stomach flipping causing the organ to die. Your boy filled his belly with "stuff", kinda like eating three Turkey Day Dinners in a row with dessert eat round.

I had something similar happen to my young GSD bitch the other day. I'd scavenged some left over bits of steak from a BBQ at my brother's place. I gave the dogs some, then put the rest in the fridge and forgot about them. About a week later, the odour coming from the fridge reminded me that they were there. I put them in my green bin, but they smelled so bad, I emptied the bin, and tied the bag up, and left it on the floor meaning to take it out to the trash.
Then, I heard my dogs barking at the mailman, and ran to let them in. A few minutes later, i was sitting in my study, browsing the web (maybe even this forum!) when the smell from the rotten steak sort of wafted in from the kitchen. I said some nasty words about my forgetfullness, and ran to the kitchen.
Needless to say, I was too late. The steak bits were already inside my dog.
I called the vet, and asked what was the best, safest way to make her vomit up her stolen meal. He said 15 ml. of hydrogen peroxide, and if that doesn't work within 20 minutes, to bring her in.
I got a syringe, administered the peroxide, and 10 minutes later, she vomited up the steak, along with part of her breakfast. Thank goodness everything was fine after that. Garbage gut can be dangerous. I came close to losing the dog in my sig, because my husband let her wander off one day. I don't know what she got into, but I DID know from past experience that she'd rip open people's garbage bags if she could get to them. Two days later, she was in the vet's with elevated liver enzymes and a fever of 105 F. She was so sick, she had to be lifted into the car.

Ccatti snuck in the dog food one day. It happened to be a day she went to the vet for vacinations..... She was over 10 pounds above her normal weight and has never been so big again. All was well. Her mom had done the same thing....
Glad your boy is okay! Scary at the time for sure.
