I was at a show in the midwest, where a dog(beauceron) went belly up to the judge was put up over the French National Champion.

The standard clearly said that the dog that went belly up should have been excused.

When asked about it later, it turned out the French National Champion "grumbled" at the judge.

Interesting note:  The judge was walking around with a stogie in his mouth and a cowboy hat and some horrid aftershave----I watched 3 dogs in the Beauceron Ring alone react negatively to him----so, maybe it was the judge?

Anyway, the judge said, and I quote "You Beauceron and Shepherd people can't have it both ways."

"What do you mean?"  I asked

"You can't do bite work and show in AKC."  He responded

"So, you can't have dog that is tempermental sound and beautiful?"......I just walked off at that point...

I personally think that the bite work has nothing to do with what that dog did.  i think the judge don't know what he's talking about.

1) you shouldn't judge any dog with a big cowboy hat and too much perfum!! Sometime the dog react because he never encounter such a big headed person and find them suspicious..you have to be careful with powerful breed, but some judge think every dog should act like a Golden.

You are right..it was the judge..but when you show you must make sure that you present under good judge that knows a lest a little about the breed.

The bite work only reinforce the self confidence and when it is well done..shouldn't bring agressivity for no apparent reasons .

Oh..other point. The judge said.you beauceron and shepherd people..

I think that comparing apples and oranges.  Beaucerons are not Shepherd!! They don't have the same temperament (even if some things in their respectful standard look the same).

That shows you that he just doesn't know what he's talking about..probably ancient breeder of pomeranians LOL

HIlarious. What a crock of s$%#. Here are some pictures of us "having it both ways"

Aila doing some PP work:

My daughter showing Aila in AKC juniors:

Judges like that are what's ruining working breeds in the AKC.  Being able to "have it both ways" is EXACTLY what makes a sound, stable, working dog! Another pathetic excuse to put up weak nerved dogs.

Guess he doesn't know about the AKC's Workding Dog Sport, huh?  Somebody ought to let AKC know...

KCzaja, what an ADORABLE picture of your daughter and her friend.  I love it.

Judges' addresses are published in the AKC show premium lists; you should send those two photographs to Mr. Hermel.  I agree: what a crock of **** he said.

Beauceron haven't been excepted in the AKC for what a few years?

I was always under the impression that they were a very aloof, untrusting with strangers type of breed.  of course they aren't going to do well with AKC.  AKC  changes breeds of dogs into basically all golden retreivers.  they are mindless robots made to prance around a ring and look pretty.  Thre are alot of breeds who would never do well with AKC shows.  I feel the tibetan mastiff is another breed that they have recently accepted that won't do well.
