 Hi Everyone,

I need your help regarding a cyst growing at the back of my puppy's head.  I believe it is growing and it is attached to her back skull.  Will some medication help to stop the growth of the cyst or better, cure it?  It is protuding and now as big as a marble. Please help me. I want this puppy to live.  Thank you to all of you in advance.

Have you taken your puppy to the vets?

This would be my first course of action.

If you haven't, I strongly recommend that you should be doing this so that the cyst can be properly diagnosed and  for the pup to be given the treatment that is needed.

It is possible it is a simple and common cyst that is called a sebaceous gland cyst. As above, take your pup to a veterinarian to check it out. If it is simple, generally nothing needs to be done except get the matter out of the cyst, and sometimes, nothing is done. If it is something else, a vet needs to see it to determine the right thing to do for it.

If this is a hard lump just between the ears, feels like bone attached to the skull, I had a male puppy with this, asked the vet who said it was an inflammation of the part of the skull (can't rember exactly) probably caused by a bang to the head. He said if it did not go away we could inject some antiinflammatory but in this case it just dissppeared on its own after a while, with no treatment. A friend's adult female had a cyst on her he head which grew and they eventually had it removed for cosmetic reasons, this was slightly softer than the bump on my pppy's head (did not feel like bone).

Could it be a tick?

See your vet.

I had consulted my vet already and he said just leave it as is for a while and observe.  If the cyst does not get smaller in a months time, he will surgically remove it.  No medication needed now.

It also could be something as harmless as ingrown hair...this happens a lot more than people realize.  I too thought my pup had something bad.  Sometimes, as the skull is growing, the hair can become trapped inside and as the puppy grows, the hair will continue to grow, which will make the cyst bigger.

Definitely worth checking into!

Good luck.
