I dont know why but my puppy has gold in between his toes. Its the only place that isnt black except for a very thin line of white on his chest that is almost gone. I love how unique each GSD can be. Im tired of all the bashing on this website so lets get back to what really matters and thats these great friends. post your unique gsd and link.

Very Beautiful dog.
I think his toes must be special.
Good luck with your Beauty!

smartguy,
Nice looking black.
Black's can have color between the toe's, it's not uncommon. Does he have any color around the vent, or around the ear's, or inside the leg's ?
Are you anywhere near Indiana?
Just curious.

A black gsd is a very special one especially if the individual still has a head and all senses.Dont worry about the bits of color. He has flat spreading front feet..GOOD!From the wither through his pasterns down to his feet...are weak.Simply said he has weak ankles because of his pasterns. If you ever breed him.Be sure to breed to a strong pastern girl.he is tight footed on his left rear foot but not so tight on the right. Its not the picture.

Thank you for that evaluation all though I wasnt really looking for one (not trying to sound rude). Do things like weak looking ankles get better as the dog matures or is it for life. I ask because he is only 9 1/2 months old in this picture so I know he hasnt fully matured. I have heard that a puppy needs to mature before examining there structure but I dont know much on analysing structure yet.

Hi Smartguy1469,
My puppy Pharaoh is black with tan inbetween his toes. He was 8 months old in this picture.
My previous dog had chronic giardia and she went from really strong pasterns to much weaker than your pup. She was actually down on her pasterns at 2 years old. After several courses of panacur/goldenseal/acidopholus pearls and switching her diet to raw (with whole pieces of chicken). her pasterns came back up nice and straight and her ears got really strong.
Here is a picture of her at 11 years old just a few months before she died.

Hi Smartguy, This illustration may be helpful.
The pasternts are the bottom of the front legs where you see the 22 degree mark. That is the breed standard.
If you are on the messageboard page, look on the left hand side of the page and scroll all the way down until you see:

Click on body structure. This will give you a lot of information about our beloved GSD's. A Malinois's front leg is straight all the way from the shoulder to the toes. Shepherds are supposed to have a 22 degree angulation at the pastern.

Does the surface that the dog is on and the way you stack a dog affect the angulation of the pasterns?

Your dog is technically a bi-color.. with the tan coming in.. several of our black puppies as young babies have had the same thing happen... it's pretty common and it doesn't change who they are one bit!!
Very good looking .. I have an itch for a black or a bi-color for some reason.....gonna get me one!
