Why isn't it possible for so many humans to train their dogs with love and patience? I read… this collar, that collar, here again and again this aid and that one… Also on the danger that I am completely misunderstood ( because language-problems or generally ), I would like to give to consider: With love, intensive connection 24 hours a day, understanding, time and patience all dogs are to be trained. Dogs are our partners… and best friends…. And one needs time and patience and a good observation - approximately in the measure, as our dogs observe us. They are always what we make from them. It is difficult to bear - to read these threads here and which is organized with the dogs, our friends. Apology and sorry…. I must say, because I stand on the side of the dogs. I do not expect an answer - I would like to only stimulate to think.

I have used different collars on my dogs depending on the situation etc.  I acquired a prong collar when I had a very bad back and could not risk being pulled whilst walking the dogs. My old boy is now on Gods waiting list but I only have to get out his collars and he goes mad - trying to shove his head into them - be it his old show one or the prong collar - so before you see them all ask bad - try asking the dogs.

I have seen ignorant people doing more damage with a basic collar than an experienced one using a more complex collars and I dont use standard check chains anymore due to the damage that they can so easily cause.

Having seen one of Cesar Milan's program demonstrating the effectiveness of an E-collar in training dogs not to go after snakes and hopefully preventing a dog from dying - I wouldnt rule one of those out in the right circumstances.

Good post beepy.  If I had a dog that was determined to kill himself, be it chasing cars, tractors, or whatever else kind of trouble a dog can get into, I would prefer to use an E-collor or a prong with a hard correction.  I do love my animals and I would try anything to keep them alive and out of harm's way.

An answer,

Tool's, time.

Some people don't have 24 hour's a day to whisper sweet nothing's in a dog's ear to get it to do what they want.

Also man love's gadget's.    And there is good and bad.

I need another cigarette.

Me.

Training is not the question of a certain neck volume - but is an attitude to the dog, intensive connection and that analyzes: why the dog reacts either way… which I in me changes, in order to understand and for it arrange the language of the dog, what I want…. is not heavy and definite really no question of the neck volume.

I talk rarely with my dogs - however they always surround me and observe me and close on…. @two moons: it is correct. As little as I talks, understands it me also whispering.

If people have no time they should not have a dog.

I'm guessing senta that you probably wouldn't like my 2x4 and a shoe up the butt method when they go after my cats.  Seeing as they are $1500 cats, it's a method that works for me.

senta,

I hear ya,

And I know where your coming from, I understand.

Other's will argue their own method's are sound.

Brent.

Dogs do not hunt cats, if they learned it that the cats belong to the herd. I have several cats… if it am cold, sleep they all together with body contact nearly fire-place. However my cats are not worth a x-dollar - they are priceless.

@two moons: I will be quietly… and also a cigarette will smoke, perhaps one more…

My dogs do co-habitate with the cats quite nicely but when they see a little kitten scamper across the floor, the urge to chase does sometimes happen.  I do NOT want to call someone and say "sorry but my dog ate the kitten you just paid me for".  I love my Bengals as much as my dogs and I don't want harm coming to any of them.  If a harsh correction is needed occasionally, then I will do so.  I was joking about the 2x4 but not the shoe up the butt.
