Does anyone know the going rate to title a dog for SchH1 for an owner ?
I was asked recently what it might cost and didnt know what to tell them. They were quoted what I thought was a really high price from a trainer with dog experience but no SchH titles under his belt. I tried to encourage them to train their OWN dog.... but that may not be possible for them.
I realize its all relative of course; and depends on time it takes etc. Just wondering how trainers determine this ?
Thanks ! Rose

Hello. The price for the BH and theSch1 usually around 4k U.S. And that is if the dog has drive for sport. Training pet dogs is harder when owners mess with the dogs as pups then expect trainer to title easily. It takes alot of training to get BH and SCH1. Best regards

Yep, that price quote is about right. You need to add another 1k for a breed survey. Of course, travel expenses to and from Germany will be another $ 1,500 or more (depending on airline, season and if the dog is accompanied). And I won't get into prices for monthly fees to raise and socialize good prospects, if you are lucky to find somebody and send your dog over before he is old enough to be titled.
We always joke that we have jobs to support and finance our dogs besides the two kids. Currently, 5 of our dogs are in Germany - 4 to be titled and 1 to be bred. If everything goes according to plans, 2 more are going in September. I need to ask my boss for a raise, ha ha.
With the declining dollar rate, it is getting expensive. Maybe, your find can find a good trainer in the U.S. with competitive prices. Good luck!

Do NOT use a dog trainer who has never put a SchH title on a dog. Sometimes trainers haven't competed in a certain venue because they CAN'T, or are just not temperamentally suited. If he has never done it before, WHO is going to do his helper work? Doesn't that mean at least joining the local club?...who are just going to LOVE him for taking his commerical venture to them for training when he was not interested in joining their group for love of the sport. Taking a pet dog from nothing to SchH1 isn't for a novice SchH trainer, don't waste your money. Get someone who has actually done it and is good at it. A "Schutzhund trainer" without experience can screw your dog up so fast, it won't ever get the title. All training is not universal, SchH is specialized training that someone needs to have a passion for before they start trying to make money doing it.

BTW, I am speaking as someone who has paid for titling a dog to SchH1 four times (so they are proven worthy to breed). Veronica

Chris, I am jealous of your trainer, LOL. Wow, four at once! Some people are jealous of houses and cars...me...I'm jealous of your trainer! :-)

Ain't that the gospel. How many times have clubs seen this done and tried through the years?...LOL

I charge $1200./mo. + expenses, but I have titled a lot of dogs. Training to BH and SchH1, with show rating and Korung, usually takes me 4-6 months (from nothing), depending on the dog and whether it came screwed up or not. It can take a couple of month just to bond with a dog. No bond, no progress. I am training 6 dogs for new and repeat titles, show ring, etc. right now. (4 my own) Its a full time job. I have a waiting list.

How much do you charge just to get the show rating and korung, Shelley? Just curious. It's not easy to get the show rating and korung when you live in Alaska...you have to travel.
