my male, angus, has a very special affinity for my great-niece. when she is here or we are all together somewhere, he becomes "her" dog for the most part. if she spends the night, he is with her just about every moment - she has to lock him out of the bathroom/he lays outside the bathroom door til she reappears. he'll whine and try to wake her up if she sleeps later than him. she has his pictures on her school notebooks and calls him her dog. if her 3 yr old brother is around (btw, we have all come to the conclusion that he and angus share a brain), angus will shepherd him, but frequently check in on brittany. when he and dillan met, dillan was a bit over a year old and angus was a bit over 3 months. angus stayed next to him the entire time, right at his side. if dillan stopped, angus stopped. my niece and i followed them all over the place and followed them into my den where dillan sat down, angus laid down next to him and dillan played xbox (tv and xbox both turned off!) for awhile. dillan got up and so did angus and they went from there.dillan actually gets a little mad, cuz he's always trying to go where he's not supposed to and angus really does shepherd him. he won't let him out of his sight or the yard. the only person angus will switch from britt for is dillan. but when they leave, no whining or moping around. its like a light switch. he becomes our dog again. my son's dog, claire is great with people, but she is HIS dog, first, last and always. my question is, do any of your dogs do this?

My dog (she is actually my GF) she fallows me everywhere. If all three of us are in a car and we are about to get out, she waits on me to open her door, and yeah my GF tried to open the door from the other said she just does not care and waits for me to open and goes with me. Funny, some dogs are like that, with Sasza I am pretty sure its because I am a guy and from what I noticed females always like the guy better and I am pretty sure it’s because we let them do anything they want.

Drake is exactly the same way with my granddaughter. When she is here he sleeps at the foot of her bed. In the morning he'll go out and I close her door to let her sleep. He comes in and goes right to the door and lays there until she gets up. He follows her everywhere. And when they are ready to leave he always steals one of her shoes and plays keep-away. It's hilarious watching him go around the table with her trying to retrieve the shoe. He just doesn't want her to leave. Once they're gone he goes back to his routine, until she comes again. He adores her.

Both my dogs love me untill my wife comes home. I am the one who trains them, feeds them and even groom them. But when my wife comes home they leave my side and follow her around. My female will come and say hi to me and sit with me sometimes when the wife is home but my male is her dog.

LOL 4pack,, sounds like my Dory. im pretty sure if she knew how to feed, water, and get outside to potty, she would look at me like HER son.

well, we took britt out to dinner, and angus was happy to have her back in his loving care..LOL. geez. he's been glued to her since we got back (~2 hrs ago). o well, he'll be my dog again when she goes home tomorrow. i could probably "steal" claire away from my son for awhile if i had enough cheese (she's a slut for cheddar or bleu or jack or.......nah, i'd hate myself in the morning).

Some GSDs just have an affinity for children. It is a wonderful trait within the breed and one that should be kept, in my opinion. I think that in our focus on grip, speed, conformation, etc., something like a natural bond with children gets passed by in favor of the rest. Some very tough Schutzhund dogs have a surprising soft spot for children, which is like the perfect dog, to me.
Sometimes, I wish my Arwin would not be quite so one-woman. She is polite and respectful enough to my husband and daughter, and loves them, she was protective of my daughter in the "Moose Incident" in May--- but if I am around, I am Arwin's entire world. That brings to mind the saying "God help me to be the person my dog THINKS I am!" Veronica
