Then this is safe if the dog chews? I'm assuming so but paranoid with a younger dog. I didn't see anything in the article.

I have no clue.  Just forwarding on an interesting article.

I probably wouldn't use it with a dog that chews, but then, I wouldn't put anything in a crate with a dog that chews.  No blankets, nothing. 

For that matter, I tend not to leave blankets in crates with dogs unsupervised period.  Just my own precautions.

I think that something like this would be good if you were working out in the hot sun with your dog, and needed to help keep him cool.

Again, just passing along the article.  Decision is up to you to make.
 

Keep in mind, they do sell these things at dog shows frequently.  I have a vest and a pad that I purchased at a dog show.
