Just wanted to know, is it o'kay to give fish to dogs as part of a RAW Diet?
Does anybody else do this?
Thanks.
Henry.

I am sure all the raw enthusiasts will tell you it is ok, but for my money, no, I would not feed raw fish because of parasites they carry. Raw fish does infect humans with all kinds of worms etc. Unless you could be certain of the source and that there were no infections, I would not do it. But then again, for a variety of reasons, I don't feed raw.

I feed canned salmon when i get it on sale buy 10 cans and 1/2 can for each dog...
Raw I dont have access to that I can afford...Going to Galveston Weds , but I dont fish or have any one who does...if I find someone with some fresh they want to give me I will bring it back....I would think filets only and look over for tiny bones.first....salmon bones are ok..

Thank you for the answers.
Hodie, I definitely can't be sure of the source, actually the quality definitely won't be 100% because the health requirements are not enforced here at all(malaysia) so what if I pressure cooked it and then gave it to them?
Thanks again.

Henry,be VERY CAREFULL with fish because there is one type of salmon that carries a fluke that makes the dogs very ,very sick.

I feed sardines and some salmon as part of the diet...my boy would almost go for the fish before a meaty bone!.....Domenic what is the type that carry fluke?

I feed raw fish about once a week, oily type which is high in Omega 3s eg pilchsards, sardines, herring, mackeral.
If these are not available I then will feed tinned, nutritionally just as sound.
Better for dogs than salmon or tuna IMHO

Salmon Poisoning Disease comes basically from fish that are caught wild in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States.
Farm-raised and store bought fish is fine to feed whole and raw.
Freezing caught fish for three weeks to a month will make the fish safe to feed. Store bought fish has been frozen, which is what makes it safe.
