i'm just surprised it isn't jack russel terrorists.....
doxies aren't always the most child friendly of dogs, but my parents have had 2 and while they are stubborn little beasties, they have some natural charm to them imo. when my son was very little, he would put my parents old doxie in a plastic wagon and take her for walks. she loved it and got to see alot more than if she tried to walk it.

People forget so many of the "little" breeds are hunting dogs... Or were at one point in time. I'm more leary of the little ones then many of the larger breeds.

I have 2 doxies. One is 16 and the other is 6. The 16 year old tolerates kids, but the 6 year old likes children more than adults.
I think if they are raised with small children in the home, they can be a wonderful dog. We get our gsd baby in 2 weeks!

My father loves doxies, through out my life we had like 5. Guess what the last one is the only one that tolerates everyone and likes not to be bothered. THe other ones would snap at you in a sec. And if you a child you better start runing and better run fast. LoL I have to say i like doxies they are my favorite bread when talking small dogs.

I've lost track of how many biting dachsunds I've worked with. Recently I read in the Chicago Tribune about an elderly woman whose toe has gnawed off by her doxie in her sleep, and last year an infant lost his genitals to a dachsund in my county. One of my puppies lives with 6 dachsunds, a wonderful family that has been very dedicated to controlling their dogs' aggression. During a lesson one of their females once ran and chomped the tail of a K9 in training!

Dachs are nasty little buggers

If I'm not mistaken Dachshund translates as badger dog & any dog that is able to flush out a 20lb ferret is going to have to have something about him!
