Does anyone have a Honda Pilot? I'm looking into purchasing one of these and am interested in how they would function as a dog vehicle. Can you fit two 500's (or something of similar size) side by side in the back?

Not sure how many miles to a gallon does the Pilot get? I want a stole and go van by Dodge I have been looking and it will hold two 500 crates with the third row folded down and with the middle two more 500 plus it has airconditoning for the second row and third row independent of your front controls so I am been looking and this is a perfect thing for dogs to be hauled that I found..it gets 26 hwy miles. 26 hwy miles sounds great. I need something like that too. My dog mobile, a Dodge ram 1500 with the big engine, is a good boy when he gets 15 miles per gallon!!

Verconia, Is that a truck? How do you keep them warm? Here we worry about the heat more than the cold for sure but the new Dodge van is a dream for dogs. It has a TV on the third row and a DVD on second row and third row so Zidane can watch cartoons and the other dogs what ever they want...the seats flip up out of the floor when you are not hauling crates and the windows all row down power and a power back lift gate if you are carrying a puppy push a button so you can slide them in a crate...the price is not too high for the mini van with all options...Navigation bulit in, sirrus radio and AM/FM and U connect to program a cell phone in and I love the controls on the air I freeze but Zidane wants it full blast so everyone is happy...fully loaded they are like 32,000 to 36,000 and with the current rebate 3,500 off plus 2.99 gas guarantee for 1,200 gallons the first two years not so bad when it is 4.00 a gallon, it also has heated seats remote start and so far it appears to be the best for hauling dogs I can see. I have a Dodge Caravan, I only have two crates in it now so I can have 4 seats. It's been great. I get 22 mpg mixed driving. Lots of short trips so not great for milage. But heck, 22 is not bad for a full size vehicle!

I heard the new pilot is awesome! If I could have afforded a new vehicle I would buy that in a minute! And yes you can fit several crates in there with the seats down. THe 2009 is bigger than the earlier years! Nice but expensive! Mileage is said to get 17/23 but this car is really roomy!! I have a co-worker who bought one and he said it drives really nice! Not sure which model he bought, but he loves it!

I have a 2008 Honda Pilot with a 3.5L engine AWD. It gets 19 highway and 16 city (I use midgrade eventhough it takes regular, I get better mileage). I have 102lb, 96lb, and 70lb GSDs. It is good for two larger dogs with all the seats folded down and the dogs loose. With the middle seats down, there is a slant upward toward the front and a drop in the ceiling so I could only fit one cage in with a homemade wedge to keep the kennel level. I love my pilot and it is super in heavy snow, I drove through a blizzard and 2+ feet of heavy snow on an unplowed road. As a regular dog hauler for multiple dogs, no way, as a one dog hauler and regular driving car, yes. Depends on what your needs are. Me personally, I am looking for a used large van that I can put multiple cages in for multiple dogs and keep the climate controlled and this is just to haul the dogs.

Wow, Zidane rides in style like a doggy prince should :-) Yes, Marlene, it is a truck. The dogs are often in the back seat, but if it is not much below freezing, they can take a short ride in the crate in the back, our cold weather is very dry here and so not as much of a hazard as it would be at the same temp down south. I've looked into a camper with a heater. I can't afford to invest in the dream dogmobile right now, but it will happen eventually. Veronica

So my Dodge Grand Caravan gets better mileage? That's funny.
