What rotten luck to have a parrot get out! I'm in the U.S., so all I can say is good luck finding him. Put flyers up everywhere and call your local bird club to help in the search.  I have parrots too, so I feel for you.

Tigermouse, if your parrot flew from home, there is a chance he'll stick close by.

Drag his cage outside.  Place food and water on the top where it is readily visible.  Keep a light on by the cage (at night) if possible.  Cage is safety, if he sees a light, he may hang around longer.  Fasten the door so it stays open.

It's a far chance, but it has worked before for lost parrots.  Most parrots haven't the strength to fly far.  Canvass your neighborhood extensivly.  Let everyone know about your bird.  The likelyhood of his landing not to far is good.

Let all vets know he is missing.  Let animal control know too.  Let feed stores, or any bird stores know also.  If found the people will be talking about him.  Anywhere they can buy food, should be made aware a Grey has been lost.

I feel for you, I am well aware of the love you have for your bird, good luck.

Our local TV stations will announce lost animals on the morning shows.  It's worth a shot for more publicity.  They even post a picture on the TV.

tigermouse:  macawpower58 gave good advice.  When I moved, I had transported my African Greys and one of the males got out through a mistake by someone helping me move (dropped the cage).  He had a mate still in the cage and I put the cage outside, but under an overhang shelter (a car port) with his mate inside the cage.  I then put a second empty cage beside her cage, and put food in the second cage with the door open.  Three days later, the male was in the second cage eating, and I walked out and shut the cage door.  I had my bird back.  I am in a rural area and I was worried about hawks or even other birds protecting their territory and causing the Grey to fly away to parts unknown.  But, as it turned out, he stayed close and came back to his mate (more likely the food though).  He and his mate were calling to each other all of the time.  He is not tame at all and is a breeder.  He would never "come to me", but maybe your bird is tame and will if you spot him and entice him with your hand and food.

Bottom line.  Do not give up. Put a cage like his out there with food in it.  I suspect you live in a city type area and that may be a bigger problem, with cats and other concerns associated with city life (car horns, kids throwing rocks, B B guns, etc.).  Good luck.

Hi Tiermouse

I hope you find him soon.  I had a scare a couple of weeks ago when my B&G Macaw decided to fly a couple of laps around the fields of our house but thankfully he wasbt too scared and he came back to me.

Please go to parrotlinks.co.uk and let them know they will give you plenty of help.  I would also put it on birdtrek.co.uk and birdtrader.co.uk.

Take care and good luck.

Joe
