Just have a couple of questions I have today.

What is the maxium amount of Liver that can be given to GSD's daily? (makes up 10% at the moment)

Other than Frontline, is there anything else that can be given for Ticks? I applied it a couple of days ago but have seen a few ticks on them since then.

And a few monthe ago, my female was in heat so I seperated her from my male but left her with my neutered Labrador and recently somebody told me that was a bad idea becuase some neutered males can still produce. I don't really see how this is possible. Is it?

And lastly I was looking at a website and it said that their puppies are weaned on Raw food but I though that puppies should be weaned on kibble. Is it o'kay to do that, does anybody here feed Raw food to young puppies?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It depends on how long ago the dog was neutered. If it was done recently, there still could be some sperm stored in the seminal vesicles. This is the reason men who have had vasectomies are told to have a couple of ejaculations while wearing a condom before risking unprotected sex, to clear out any sperm still in the pipes. I'm not sure how long the risk period would be, but I'm sure it wouldn't be more than a month.

However, a neutered male WILL mount and attempt to breed a receptive femaie. I've even heard of some neutered dogs that are capable of achieving a tie. I can't see that this is going to harm the female, unless the dog has an infection, or the female's system is abnormal in some way.

Frontline needs some time to translocate. and attach to the hair follicles.. it is possible to see fleas and ticks after an application but they should start dying within about 24 hours.. application procedure for any product is important, you need to part the hair and apply it the skin and leave it alone

A good 5 - 10 minute walk will help the translocation process.. the products use the hair oil to work so batheing should not occur right before or right after. Most often 2 days either way are ok....

Lastly don't try to brush the dog right after.... does this help??

All my dogs are raw fed and pups are raised raw, it is how dogs should eat, IMHO and that of many many others... puppies thrive on raw and stools are the best ever.. always had at least one bout of diarrhea with kibble raised pups, not so with raw fed pups..

Again, hope this helps..

Oh Ok, he was  neutered over a year ago so that's fine. Thanks Sunsilver,

DKiah, thanks for the help

just one last thing, it has been a few days since I applied the frontline and I do see some dead ticks but in some areas I can still find some, I'm guessing that from what you said that the oil didn't spread throughout the skin. However, I didn't wash them or comb them and for the few hours after I applied the frontline they just slept in my room so maybe the amount I put was too little. How much do you apply?

And I was interested to find that puppies can be weaned successfully on RAW food. Do you just feed the same things as you do adults or does it vary?

Thanks again.
