Several days ago I stumbled upon these message boards while googling for any additional information on Alt Ostland Kennels since the website didn't have anything current.

I purchased a puppy (Eik-Lucy litter of 2/14/08) from Alt Ostland in April and was told that registration papers were late but would be sent. The official name list wasn't complete, either. I wasn't too concerned - she was moving, it had happened before with another puppy and my communications (by e-mail) with Ms. Malone had been very pleasant and straight forward, or so I thought. Getting a new puppy every 10 to 12 years from small breeders hadn't prepared me for this apparenly cutthroat business of current breeders. I chose Alt Ostland because there were puppies of the type I wanted, at the right age, and not too far from where I reside. My puppy, at 4 1/2 months, is a handsome fellow, stable and smart, easy to train. However, despite several e-mailed requests to Ms. Malone , the puppy still doesn't have an "official identity. Is there any hope of getting the registration papers? Except for some rescued dogs I have never had an unregistered dog. How will the lack of identity affect participation in field trials, etc?

I want to thank Czech DDR Lover for posting the information for reporting fraudulent practices - I have been trying to find out how to proceed for some time now . I will contact AKC with my evidence in the case. Fortunately I had not deleted any of the e-mails between Ms. Malone and myself.I also have the signed and dated purchase contract as well as the a copy of the puppy's pedigree. (For those who saw the 5 week pictures of the litter, I have "light blue boy".)

Thank you all for any advise.

For a Dog Not Yet Individually Registered
Breed
Sex and color and markings
Date of birth
Litter number (when available)
Names and numbers of sire and dam
Name of breeder
Date sold or delivered

For a Registered Dog
Breed
Registered name
Registration number
Date sold or delivered

This identifying information must be supplied with the dog even though AKC papers are not yet available, and even to a person who takes the dog only for resale as an agent or on consignment, and the same information must be passed on by him when he disposes of it. (The only exception to this requirement is when there is a written agreement made between the parties when the dog is delivered specifying that registration papers are never to be given.)

The American Kennel Club considers the purchase of a dog a private transaction between the buyer and the seller. As with any transaction, the seller, or in this case the breeder, we believe should stand behind their product and act as a responsible breeder. Many reputable breeders have different opinions as to the rights of the seller and buyer and buyback/return policies. A contract at the time of sale sometimes will eliminate these questions.

The American Kennel Club supports the breeding of dogs by responsible breeders for the purpose of improving breeds of purebred dogs. The AKC does attempt to foster sound breeding practices through education, funding of research, and inclusion of Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) data in our records and printed on our registration documents.

The American Kennel Club does not license or endorse anyone engaged in the commerce of selling purebred dogs and, therefore, has little control over the business practices of those involved in such transactions.  While The American Kennel Club attempts to foster sound breeding, our jurisdiction is limited to the practices one must follow to ensure proper identification of dogs registered with The American Kennel Club.  AKC is a registry body. A Registration Certificate identifies the dog as the offspring of a known sire and dam, born on a known date.

 Continued from above:

The AKC is not directly involved in the commerce of dogs, and the AKC does not license, endorse, register, or recommend any breeders or kennels. Membership in the AKC is comprised of independent dog clubs located throughout the United States. No individual persons are members of the AKC.

Troy, sorry that you too have been caught in this spider web. You are in Louisianna and she is in or soon moving to East Texas. Send her a certified letter and if she doesn't reply, take her too small claims court and attach whatever bank account she has or maybe you can get a compliance order.

Good luck to you.

I have three dogs from her and I picked up each of them individually from her place.  I have never had any problem and my dogs were all healthy.  I can't speak for anyone else, but my experiences with her have always been good.

I come on this website for information and am shocked by the very petty nature of a lot of the people who post here, it is very sad.

Life is way too short for petty high school stuff.

For those who truly have an issue, take it up through the proper channels and leave the petty small talk at home.
