Hey Chinito,

Thats what i thought before giving my dog Innova Evo. I did a lot of research, like day and night research and i found out that this is not true! High protien foods like orijen, innova, blue wilderness etc are one of the best foods you can possibly find. Just make sure your dog gets his exercise because dogs do gain on high protein foods like innova, orijen etc. If high protien diets cause liver damage, kidney damage, arthritis etc , half of the carnivores would have been dead by now. Dogs are carnivores and they do better on meat than grains and vegetables.  Just make sure he gets his exercise and he should be fine. I did a lot of research, read a lot of books and consulted a lot of experienced vets who breed gsds to and IMO high protein foods will do more good than harm. Its better than feeding him cheap dog foods. My dogs are doing excellent on evo. They never got ruuny stools or gas, instead they're full of energy, Goodluck!

Maybe because all of the protein sources comes from animals. What about other foods that has corn and soy in it which we know has also protien content. I'm thinking maybe the protein that comes from a grain source are not ideal for our GSD.

I cant comment on high protein and arthritis, however with my older dog I incurred hundreds of pounds of vet bills trying to work out why he was ripping his skin to pieces, only discover quite by accident its high protein.

If he is on a kibble diet he can only tolerate a maximum of 20% protein and any more than that and he is extremely itchy and will eventually start chewing till he bleeds.
