A breeder friend of mine sold 3 puppies from the same litter to a wealthy family who had thought they wanted 3 pups. They had a private trainer, and more adult help around the house. They had never had GSD pups before. The breeder advised against them buying 3 pups. As it turns out, the family decided it WAS too much, and wanted to return one puppy. What, in your opinions, should happen in this case. Some professional feedback would be appreciated.

I'd take the pup back but they would not get a full refund.  I would at least keep the deposit cost of the pup.

Selling them 3 pups was crazy.  I won't even sell the same person 2 littermates unless it's an experienced trainer or breeder.

Pam Powers: The breeder advised against them buying 3 pups.

Could the breeder not have said "no" and taken the risk of loosing a sale?

In good faith, the breeder should just chalk it up to experience, take back the 2 surplus pups, and given a refund. It's her fault that these people bought 3 pups from the same litter.

If they think returning one puppy is going to cure the "to much", they still have no clue. I would also question the issue of new to owning puppies and now they have a "pack" that will bond to each other more than to the family. This to me is a receipe for all being returned one at a time.

I would not sale 2 pups to one owner, and I must agree somewhat with both of you  Take the pup back keep the deposit, then, Yes the breeder could have said no I would have, there was no loosing a sale the breeder I am sure could have sold the pups to some one else then.

As far as full refund no, and you really can't put the whole fault on the Breeder either or at least you should'nt.

"you really can't put the whole fault on the Breeder either or at least you should'nt"

Why not?  She's the one that bred the pups so she should be the one that is responsible for where they go and with whom.  First time GSD owners aren't exactly experts but the breeder should know better.

Yes you are right The reason I said that is because the breeder did advise against it.  But for some reason still went ahead and sold them. Mabe because they where told that they have a trainer  who know. I still would not have done it.

Lots of people are impulse buyers and if they want itthey will somehow find a seller to sell on there terms.

As a breeder i must say that i cannot take back any puppies as long as i have puppies with me so i dont risk infection. Once the leave they are prone and can carry so many diseases without showing symtoms. I can risk the rest of the litter because of 1 pup. They will have to hold him till the rest are sold or are over 4 months old.
