Nice; is she gonna look like the one in your profile pic? That's sure a nice one, too!

For those wondering, here's a pic of 2 8 mos old GSDs I saw advertised here around May 30th of this year:

Katjo,

these are not GSDs, they are Dutch Shepherds.

OH-oops-I must have skimmed it too quick and remembered seeing "Shepherds" in it -it had been a while since I read it. My bad! Sorry! {Must admit, for that coloring to be a 'lost' GSD color, I was pretty darned surprised to see it crop up so obvious}

I've never heard of a Dutch Shepherd. What's that? And is it related to the GSD?

Dutch Shepherd is from Holland, and was originally crossed with the Belgian Malinois as a sister breed.  If a Dutch had a fawn color they would call it a malinois, and if a Malinois would have a brindle they would call it a Dutch.   Then,  the Belgian and Dutch finally went their seperate ways.    The Dutch actually has 3 coat types ,  short , long and Rough.    They used to have a medium coat as well.

 The Belgians originally had three coat types as well as solid black.  But, they decided to break it down to different breeds.    The Short coat is a Malinois,  the Long coat is the Tervern, the Rough coat is the Lakenois, and the Black is the Groenendel  (sp?)

Finding a really good Dutch is much harder than finding a good malinois, because the Gene pool was much smaller for the dutch when they originally seperated from the Malinois.  But, there has been a lot of infusion of malinois , throughout the years to bring the breed to stability, so it is on the rise,  though still a rare breed and is NOT AKC recognized.

The Dutch Shepherds I have seen are a lot larger than the Malinois. How did they get the size?

Probably because the majority of the working dutchies have infusions of GSD and Mal in their backgrounds.  I believe most of the KNPV Dutchies dont have registration papers - but are really nice working dogs.
