I think most of the Amish puppymillers have taken themselves out of the AKC paperwork loop by not registering their litters with AKC anymore. They use one of the splinter registeries like the APR so they are no longer accountable to AKC. Then it falls on the local dog law enforcement people to inspect them.  Pet buyers don't care if their puppy is registered with the American Kennel Club or the American Purbred Registry as long as it has "papers".

I feel bad for the amish people in that they have have resorted to this.In ref to AKC I submitted my kennel name which was refused because I didnt have so many litters  over a period of years.I was pissed!I fired off a letter in ref to inspection of all the kennels that had a listed name.I also fired off another letter as to what they were doing with the breeds.Basically there is no inspection!!AND they could care less. How sad.

Don't feel sorry for the Amish, Rainhaus. They do not register with the AKC by choice. The don't want to be in the AKC loop as it opens them to inspection. If they register with a splinter group, they are not held to any sort of standard and are free to sell mixes as purebreds as the photos linked here seem to indicate happens.

I lived most of my life in the next county to Lancaster and trust me when I tell you that they are doing just fine and making tons of money from breeding dogs. Some have been cited by the local dog law authorities for filthy kennel conditions; many have not. The only upside to the current dog market in Lancaster is that they are no longer permitted to sell puppies at the local farmer's market where Jo-Jo the Dog Man would buy up all the unsold pups and resell them to research labs here and in Delaware and NJ. It took us years of protesting and campaigning to finally put a stop to that cruelty.

HAD A LOOK AT THE LINKS AND MY FIRST WORDS WERE OH!MY GOD.IF YOU LOOK AT THE CORGIS AND GSDS THERE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE.BESIDE MY GSDS I HAVE COCKERS AND THE ONES IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT ARE POOR SPECIMENS.HERE IN THE UK ALL A PERSON NEEDS TO PROVIDE TO START UP A PUPPY FARM IS ADEQUATE SHELTER,FOOD AND WATER.SURELY THERE SHOULD BE STRICTER RULES THAN THIS!!  IT IS SO ANGERSOME,BUT AS LONG AS THERE IS A DEMAND FOR THIS IT WILL CONTINUE.I'M AFRAID THERE REALLY HAS TO BE MORE PUBLIC AWARENESS.I ALSO HATE TO SAY THIS BUT OUR K.C. WILL TAKE ALL THE REGISTRATION FEES GLADLY.  funky munky

You know, I have been educated these past few days on puppy mills and the horrible commonness of these people and their cruelty  towards animals just to make a buck.  It's a real shame people think they are saving a buck on these extremely poor bred animals.

A dear friend and director of the Sanilac County Humane Society here in MI contacted me the day after I posted this thread to let me know she along with local animal control and sheriff's deputies just raided and confiscated 38 dogs, 20 birds (cockatiels, canaries and a parrot), and two cats.  The dogs were infested with flees, ringworm and parvo.  These dogs were "designer" breeds such as Puggles and Cockapoos some of which were housed in 200 series crates with several other dogs with no food or water in their own feces.  She said the smell alone was overwhelming. The birds were so deep into their own feces that they have deformed or missing feet and lice.

She told me that when she confronted this 57 year old man and his 76 year old mother he told her he was "allowed to have as many dogs as he pleased because he lived in the country".  He also proceeded to tell he that they are only f***ing dogs.  She told me that several groomers have stepped up to bat because these dogs have never seen a groomer.  They are finding maggots in the feces matted hair.

I don't live in a very large county.  I am appalled to hear these things actually happen so close by.  I would love to cram this pair in a crate with no food or water and see how well they enjoy scooting around in their own waste.
