For those that dont know using UPPER CASE on forum's such as this is classed as shouting - not very polite.

It is nice however to see a thread that has brought up a good level of debate and shown that two sides exist (if not more) to an argument.

BEEPY

FOR YOUR INFORMATION I AM NOT SHOUTING, AND I ACTUALLY AM A VERY POLITE LADY. IF YOU HAD READ THE EARLIER POSTS, YOU WOULD SEE, THAT I USE CAPITAL LETTERS BECAUSE OF FAILING EYESIGHT. IT IS EASIER FOR ME TO READ BACK WHAT I HAVE TYPED.

IS THERE AN ACTUAL RULE ABOUT USING CAPITAL LETTERS, OR ARE YOU JUST TRYING TO BE SMART.

Brady Bee - Im not trying to be smart - but as I say I am fully aware that it is classed as rude to use upper case as its how you show that you are shouting.

If you have failing eyesight and to be honest mine is pretty poor can I suggest use increase the zoom to increase the size you see on the computer - thats what I've done.  After all a forum is for more than just the person posting the message.

Is that better?   I must apologise to everyone who thought i was shouting, and reassure you all that I wasn't.  AYE RIGHT

I fully agree with you, Marlene.

Not having posted before, I decided to make an exception with this topic. A long-standing European Breeder, some of the angst and emotion-ridden ignorance propagated by posters like Blitzen renders me fearful for our breed’s future.

Genetic diversity amounts to disease resistance and better health generally, longevity, vigour, intelligence and stamina, and imparts greater resilience in dealing with changing circumstances. It is also in very short supply. Irrespective of numbers, purebred dog breeds are genetically, almost by definition if you like, also rare breeds, a situation only made worse by the ongoing resort to but a small number of renowned studs.  On the other hand, isolated cases of intensive inbreeding will hardly turn the world on its head and, on the face of it, there is no particular reason why litter under discussion should manifest overt defects.

To define such breeding as responsible, or as anything else but a necessary evil invoked in order to establish a new breed is absurd though, as progeny characteristics still remain largely a matter of sheer chance, and more so because Manus apparently produces perfectly good offspring through conventional line-breeding methods. Culling defective or too large litter numbers is part and parcel of animal breeding, but disposing of pups unnecessarily as apparently occurred here, clashes unhappily with any visionary notions.

Excuse me, Irene. You do not know me or what I know about breeding dogs or genetics. I will not intimate that YOU are ignorant and motivated by emotion and I don't expect you to assume that of me either. Inbreeding is an acceptable practice in many breeds of purebred dogs and that is a fact, not an emotional or ignorant ranting.  I am also well aware of what the term genetic diversity means. You have your opinion, I have mine and we can both find experts in canine genetics who would agree with both of us.
