I would not want to sound to ignorant, but I have a question I need to ask. I hear many “breeders” always claim that they are not in it for money but to improve the breed. How can one tell if breeder is in for money or actually has well of the breed on his mind? I see breeders having a lot of litters and never actually keeping any of the offspring’s. How are they justifying that they better the breed if they had no experience with the offspring after the initial few weeks? Thanks for your impute.

That's a very good question. If I had to give my .02 I'd say the breeders putting out a lot of litters whose kennels are filled with bitches are likely to be in it for profit especially if they don't ever keep anything for themselves. That's not to say that they are not breeding quality pups but I'd be curious to know how selective they are with placing their pups, how much time they take in caring for them, where the pups are being raised, ect. I'd imagine having multiple litters would be very difficult to properly socialize each pup, begin imprinting unless of course you are a huge operation that hires kennel help....
I'd say the "breeders" that do not produce litters very often, that raise their pups in their homes, take the time with each one and extra care with placing them in the right homes would likely not be in it for profit because I know from having my first litter the time and money I invested would not consitute seeing "profit".

Thanks Agar I agree with you. Thanks for your input. One more question. I found this one breeder that I will most likely consider getting my second dog from. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with him. And do you think I am making a right choice by putting him on top of my breeder list. Keep in mind that I am located in CT and it’s important for me to be able to drive to see the mother and father (if possible). I have a female that even though was not breed by him the mother came from his breeding program, and I am very satisfied with her. Check the link
Thanks for your input.

Jim is a very nice guy. I would recommend visiting his kennel and seeing if what he offers suits you. I am located in CT, and you are very welcome to come meet our dogs as well, even if for nothing else but to use as a comparison when choosing the right breeder for your next pup.

Kandi, thank you very much for your input. Actually you are part of my list of breeders to consider when making my next purchase. It’s a small list so far: Jim from von Wyndmoor, Stephen and Deb from von Stephentiz and you. And I would like to keep it that way. I definitely will be contacting you once I decide to add another female to our family. So far we only have Sasza vom Stephenitz which we are very happy with, but me and my GF keep fighting over whose dog it is. She thinks its hers, I think it’s my and Sasza depends what he wants at any given time.

Very often a small breeder on the totum pole gets overlooked.

I have had 1 litter, & I can tell you there is no money in raising puppies! LOL! Unless you count what I spent on them! And keep spending on the 2 I'm keeping! I don't know how anyone could possible make money without charging an arm & a leg per pup, & I can't see doing that...I look in their sweet little eyes, & I just want someone to love them.....jh

we dont always keep a pup from every litter. my b litter i was lucky enough to have 3 pups go to club members so i will get to see them grow and mature without having to try and raise them myself.
our last litter we have 2 males still, and my wife is in no hurry to let them go.
if we are unable to find good homes for them, then they stay with us. end of story.
keep in mind good breeders will always want to stay in touch with you to hear about the dog as they grow to see how they are doing.
