Do you mean the Nutri-Cal dietary supplement that comes in a tube? There is also a food brand named Nutri-Cal as well and just want to clarify. What are you currently feeding your dogs? Is the change in appetite something that just started?  Are they losing weight? A little more info would be helpful. :)

It would be a good idea to determine whether your dog has a parasite or not and rule this out before anything.

Personally, I would not recommend this product on first glance. You would be better off with a whole food supplement like Feedsentials (see www.carmspack.com). If you look at the first 2 ingredients of the Nutri-cal you have two known allergens to many dogs (corn and soy). Not only is this a potential issue but the product is probably way expensive. The Feedsentials product has many components that help with digestion of food as well as provide overall good health (which go hand-in-hand of course :).

Take a look at how your dogs food is rated on www.dogfoodanalysis.com. This in itself is an eye-opener. The site is very informative. Perhaps it is the food that your dog is having issues with as well. Go grainless, better yet, go natural if you are so inclined (i.e. raw diet) but do your research first.

I doubt that Nutri cal will hurt them if you are really worried about their weight. Its basically concentrated calories.Do have both of them checked for parasites or you can run a course of wormers. But I wouldnt advise this because if they are very thin..the recommended dosage could cause harm to them.Keep that in mind if you choose that trail.Something else that I need to add whether agreed upon or not.A layed back lazy GSD will not burn so many calories. If you have two individuals whom stress because they need more and more challenges(exposure) to see/scent/inquire ect ect.No matter what you are feeding and they sit still...They burn off so much in thought...wanting.Do you expose your pups?
