HOMESTEAD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A police K-9 dog once reported missing has been found just a few blocks away from his house.
Two cousins called police after they saw TV reports about the dog's disappearance. They fed and bathed the dog, named Caine, while they had him in their care.
Homestead Police had enlisted the help of the public to help find their missing K-9 two days earlier. "We saw a dog in the middle of the street, and we didn't want him to get run over, so we decided to pick him up. When my cousin saw the news yesterday, he said this could be the do," he said.
Authorities said the 3-year-old German Shepherd went missing Sunday in the early morning hours in the area of Southwest 282 Street and Southwest 162 Avenue. Police were on the lookout throughout the day and the days after. "We did an extensive search yesterday, and we are continuing our search today in the neighborhood, in the area," said Captain Ed Bowe of the Homestead Police Department on Monday.
Police had feared that Caine's agility in climbing may have aided him in his escape from his partner's backyard.
The owner of the K-9 thinks Caine ran away to chase a female dog.
