Ok guys, I have a 3.5yr male that "holds it "all day (10 hrs) in his kennel while I'm at work.  When I get home and let him out he will pee 3,4, or 5 times, and the first couple times the stream is quite weak.  It seems that after he runs around for a minute or two that he can pee a normal stream.  Could this be signs of a prostate problem or just a side affect from holding it all day?  He is otherwise healthy and athletic.

Is he in a crate or an outdoor kennel for 10 hours?  If in a crate, I would say he just needs time to stretch out and run off some steam before he concentrates on really urinating.

No, he is in a 10x10 outdoor kennel.

I have had 2 males that do the same thing. One that doesn't hold it, that I notice anyway. My old male refused to go in the kennel and would go for so long he would switch legs mid pee. When they start going it kinda is on, off, on, off, like they have to push to go or weak as you say. Old male was neutered new male is not. Nothing wrong with either dog, just the way they pee. May be due to holding it or not but I wouldn't worry yourself unless they dribble pee when they should be holding it.

Thanks 4pack I was begining to worry, but he has no other signs of a prostate problem.  No dribble, no blood and he loves to jump.   Right now he is still intact, but I plan to have him neutered within a few months.

The other thing is if when he is let out he runs around and pees in different places he is marking his territory. Most males I know will do this, its amazing sometimes how many times they can pee on every tree and fence post...

My new male is still  young, 21 months. He doesn't mark yet just has 2 spots he always pees when he is out. He knows when I walk to the corner of the park going twards home, that's his last chance to cop a squat. He still doesn't lift his leg.
