My in laws have taken in a 7 year old entire bitch(previously used for breeding) from a relatives friends kennel, as they wanted an adult dog but not a puppy.  So this bitch has lived all her life in kennels, going into a house environment just before last Christmas.  She is a very quiet, sedate dog. The mother in law does the feeding and caring for the dog. My father in law is very much confined to a wheelchair and the dog doesn't bother about him one way or another. No children live in the house although the dog is fine with my children when we visit (kids aged 12 and 14).  She is also friendly with me and our GSD Jasper; now, when it comes to my husband she has started humping his leg when he visits,  she has liked him from day one but the humping is a new thing, she doesn't do it to anyone else or to our dog who is neutered. Why would she have started doing this and what can be done to stop it? As she still appears a bit nervy in the house we don't want to create new problems for her. My husband deals with it by removing her from his leg and firmly moves her away. He has had to put up with the usual 'it's the only bitch to jump on him' etc. I looked at other threads with this topic but it was usually a bitch doing it to another dog. Any ideas would be appreciated on how to stop it. She is just finishing a season but has humped him when not in season, if this helps.

Thanks, Ann.

It's a dominance issue. Since she is your mother in law's dog, she needs to take control when guests such as your husband come over, like putting her in a sit and rewarding her for good behavior, maybe keeping her on a leash.  Has she had any training?

Well you could start of with a nice red wine and some moood lighting, Put some Barry White or Frank Sinatra on,

KC, the dog hasn't had any training at all, doesn't know to sit on command or leave etc. Husband would have to suggest training, don't think in law takes kindly to me interferring.

Expected some funnies on this one, maybe grounds for divorce, eh!!  .

Anyone having the wine will be me, not sure about the music choice though. It took ages to give this thread a title without it sounding like it shouldn't be here.

Get them a room, or get her a boyfriend!

Seriously, it's going to be hard to deal with this one because the in-laws refuse to train the dog. Don't know how much of an  impact your husband can have, but the above suggestions about making her sit, etc. might work.

There could be many reasons for this, I would suggest a simple correction like removing the dog to another area.

The sit stay would work if it can be enforced.

It could be that a scent triggers the dogs fondness for your husbands leg.   You could try a little (OFF) on the pants leg sometime.  But seriously a correction is whats really called for here.   If it is a dominance issue the correction is all that much more nessecary.

I never cared for inlaws...lol    I wouldn't worry about offending them.

Yup-anytime a female shows such masculine things(humping, hiking a leg to pee, etc), it's a dominance thing. She may have come from your friend's kennel where she was a 'top' female on the totem pole.
What she sees in your husband's mannerisms may be triggering it also. She sees him for some reason as one to be dominated for some reason.
The alpha needs to take control of the situation and fix it. If this means the mother-in-law is #1 in this female's eyes, then she needs to do it and be firm about it. Or, don't visit anymore until they feel bad for it and are willing to fix the situation and take your harmless suggestions. It's very unpleasant and unappropriate(embarrassing) behavior and needs addressed.  Shy Whistler
