My 12 month old male has started showing signs of pano in the past week--wandering lameness. I have had a dog who had Pano before and my vet recommended restricted activity and gave Rimadyl. I really don't want to go down the Rimadyl road with Magnum (my 12 month old). I had forgot to give him Gluosamine for the last couple of months, but I have got him back on it. How have you guys got your dogs through Pano? Is there anything that's not as...nasty as Rimadyl that I can give him for pain? Any advice/experiences appreciated. Thank you!

I used Deramaxx but only when it seemed my dog really needed it, such as when he couldn't seem to settle in one place, and even then at 1/2 the dose the vet recommended. That and restricted activity worked for us.

What brand of dog food are you feeding and what is the protein %. I have had problems with Pano recently and did not use drugs to treat it. The best thing you can do is to get some Hokamix tablets because you can increase the amount more quickly. How much does your dog weigh? It will take about 2 weeks and you will see a difference and no more limping. Also, once you hace used the tablets as you start to get low you can switch the dog over to the powder if you prefer. However, I did keep my dog on the tablets to be sure the doseage was accurate. I always use Hokamix whenever I have any kind of problem. I never add glucosamine or any of those types of supplements because you can misjudge the amount too easily. The Hokamix is imported from the Netherlands and I have used it in my kennel for the past 11 years. When I bought my first shepherd the breeder told me about it and gave me 19 pages of testimonials from various people with problems that his supplement helped to resolve including mild hip and elbow problems. You can find this product at www.holisticvitamins.com or www.dogtownusa.net
I hope this information is helpful if you need more let me know.

I for sure, really agree with not giving drugs for Pano, since it's self-limiting. Hokamix is a great product, I supplemented my old dog with it from the time he was a youngster, and I really think it helped with his HD. I also wonder what you are feeding?

I have been extremely successful treating pano holistically for years. I never use drugs, and I've never found where switching food helps, but it might. I supplement with Noni Juice, Vitamin C, and a baby aspirin, crate them for a few days, and then let the magic happen, and it always seems to help alot. Clear these holistic treatments with your vet before starting, you also might want to find a holistic vet in your area. These are daily treatments for 2 weeks, and I have huge success with it. Again, clear this treatment with your vet first, that is very important. If he thinks you're wacky, find a good holistic vet. Von Leistung
