I was hoping someone with more experience with German Shepherds (breeding, registering, SchH, and Showing)  than myself might help me with an important decision weighing heavy on my mind.  You see, at the moment, I am considering the purchase of a 2 year male with apparantly no papers.  Sire is Vico v Farbenspeil and Dam is Wilma v Hawelkaweg.  I don't understand how this 2 year old male who apparently did so well in a regional show when he was in the 6-9 month and 9-12 month categories simply has no papers and if so, how might I obtain them (his papers)  in order to eventually title and show this male.  For those who might respond, thanks in advance.

Speak with the individual you are considering purchasing this dog from...as well as the previous owners.

Thank you Rainhaus.  I have spoken with the owner who indicates the papers are forthcoming.  I plan to await their arrival prior to purchase.  Take care and thanks again for your thoughts.

Good plan! I have heard of quite a few cases where someone purchased a dog BEFORE the papers arrived, and...guess what? THEY NEVER DID ARRIVE!

RainHaus, SunSilver, and YellowRose,

Thank you all for responding and offering great advise.  Yes, I did meet the dog and he looks and seems to be a wonderful specimen and example of the German Shepherd breed.  Following the discussion with the owner, I am hoping to purchase the dog (after the arrival of the papers) and hope to title him and show him.  Wish me luck and thank you all once again!

Also, it wouldn't hurt to contact the AKC and find out the procedure for registering a paperless dog.  But, sounds like you have a plan!!  Wish you the best with your new dog.
