Ok.  I still have one puppy left from my last litter.  I was intending to keep her, but now she's four months, and I've come down on orders to move.  I can take the third pup with me, but it's gonna be really hard to find a place.  I have recently come across an opprotunity to donate her to the canine program, and apparently the guy I've been talking to for the past two months (he missed his chance to buy one of my pups) will be able to keep this pup if he puts her in.

What does anyone know about this program?  I really, really want one of my pups to go to a canine program, because I have three in schh homes, one in an agility home, and one in a  tracking home.  Is it worthwhile as a tax deduction and will it be a good place?  Can they be guaranteed a home with a certain handler?  I know the dog will have a higher than average chance of getting killed in the line of duty while in Iraq, but I am a soldier too, so that is something I can understand... if my girl can give her life to save my brothers, I'll be proud beyond words.

What are your thoughts on this, not considering the risk (I'm aware of it), as a program?  I think it would be a good and noble thing for her to do.

Please give me your thoughts and experiences.

I don't know about the program, sorry.  But it would be a noble career for your youngster.

I am always skeptical of people offering to take dogs, including police and military. Both types of agencies have procedures to follow, or should have. As well, no, often the dogs live in kennels, and no, more often than not, the handler does not get to keep the dog, and handlers can be changed at will. So my advice is to check this out very carefully. There are plenty of placements that would accomplish your goal, yet at the same time ensure the dog was placed where it would get what it needed and not be discarded later when it did not work out.

I agree with hodie, this pup is 4 month old once you sign your name on that donationpaper the pup belongs to them, if the pup fails evaluation and can't be used who knows where it ends up because the organization  including millitary will NOT keep a dog who can't be used, the bad thing about that you don't have the right to ask for the pup to come back to you.

So please do you research don't let this pup go to the unknown. Maybe you can place her in a working home.
