I think many factors went into his loss...hoof, heat and the fact he hasn't had his steroids. I think Big Brown is a huge Champion and I hope he recovers quickly. I would love to see him in the Classic. I sure was rooting for a Triple Crown winner. I have to admit, I'm addicted to horse racing. Kudos to Da'Tara as well for a spectacular race...

Steroids? is that allowed? I did notice something "off" with his gait.

I was looking forward to seeing Big Brown win the TC too - but I knew from the start he wasn't going to go the distance. The Belmont is the "distance" race, and the horses out in front at the start and through the first few furlongs, will almost never come to the end in front. BB was 3rd throughout the first part of the race. He fought his jockey at the start and bounced around a bit - energy wasted when his bloodlines are sprinters, not stayers. His jockey tried to hold him back but BB is big, brown and strong. He got up where he wanted to be, but couldn't stay there for 1.5 miles. If you watch the race, the horses who were successfully held back by their jockies were in a "pack" quite a bit behind the leaders. They were the horses who overtook the leaders at the last stretch. That's what happens in a distance race - the horses who are ridden with "finesse" and who are held back to save their energy, are the ones who do well.
BB's jocky was excellent when he pulled BB up as soon as he realized the race was lost. He literally pulled him up, and started galloping him out (to cool him off) before even crossing the finish line. That's a jocky and trainer who care about their horse. Good to see it once in a while. mollyby Abhay on 08 June 2008 - 01:06
Big Brown's trainer claims he hasn't administered any Steroids to Big Brown since April 15th. Perhaps that hurt Big Brown's ability to recover from the Derby and Preakness. Dutrow claims he gave Big Brown, Winstrol on April 15th. Winstrol, would be the Roid that would help the horse the least and possibly hurt the horse the most. I thought Dutrow, knew his stuff, but I was obviously mistaken.
Anabolic Steroids are legal in 28 of 38 states that have Horse Racing. Roids are legal in all the states that have Triple Crown Races. http://www.newsday.com/services/newspaper/printedition/wednesday/news/ny-spbeldrug045712952jun04,0,6360163.story

Sounds a little strange, but I knew he was in trouble when I saw him defecating quite a bit before the race. Usually caused by nerves and stress. I think the heat and the distance did him in more than the cracked hoof. It's a shame but that's why it's horse racing. Da'Tara ran an excellent race.

LOL MI GSD ... horses know to poo before going on the track. The learn these things. LOL That just made my day, thanks.
I think it was a great race, Da Tara even while being saddled showed signs of serious competition. I watched all the horses coming frontside, Brown was to laid back. And to mention his next Winstrol, also known as Stanozolol shot wasn't due till June 15th, meaning he will lack if all other horses on the track got theirs in June. That and the heat was really bothering Brown. I don't think his 1/4 crack had anything to do with this ... I think he bled in the lungs, that's the reason he threw up his head ... he couldn't breathe. Kent did the right thing, he knew forcing him to the finish .. he'd collapse at the end.. with another Media story. I hope they publish the results of the scope. My two last minute bet's went to Tara or Macho to win. Rick Dutrow (the bigtime gambler he is) and his public guaranteed victory with BB, brought the odds down making a huge payoff for him when BB didn't win .. notice how he didn't want to talk to the Media afterwards ... gosh he didn't want that known... LOL I bet Kent and Dutrow will split the profits.
Anyhows, great race and huge payoffs.

If someone goes to the dog races and studies the dogs and how they look pre race, its often easy to see which dogs seem to feel the best and act ready. If someone bets quinellas and trifectas by this method, they most often will do better than the so called experts, who know the dogs and study the racing program.
Just like BabyEagle said, it was easy to see pre race, that the 6 horse was feeling great and was up to the mark. He was strutting around, looked hyped, and just had "The Look". My wife called my attention to #6, and I agreed.
The public is kept in the dark regarding whatever is given to these horses. I realize with PETA and all the humaniacs out there, its probably best.
Giving a horse Winstrol once a month, would be about as much benefit as doing nothing at all. Winstrol, only has an active life of 48 hrs. Winstrol increases collagen synthesis. It will give bigger tendons. However, the body compensates for this by making them more brittle, weaker, and more prone to injury. Many athletes who work out anaerobically, become injured while on winstrol. Tendons tear easily on it.
Equipoise, is very safe AAS, with good Anabolic(muscle building) properties, as well as good Androgenic(Masculinizing) properties. One of the effects of Equipoise is its ability to raise RBC´s (red blood cells), much like the EPO used by the Tour de France athletes. Equipoise, will increase skeletal muscle while at the same time dramatically increase collagen syn and bone mass and density, leaving an athlete with a substantially reduced chance of becoming injured than if one chooses to use an AAS like Winstrol. Equipoise also has an Active-Life of 7-9 days, which allows for less frequent injections.
EQUIPOISE, was a champion thoroughbred racehorse, (1928 - 1938). EQUIPOISE, is in the topside 4th gen ped of the last Triple Crown Winner, "AFFIRMED".
