To those of you who attend shows, or just have your dogs sitting around, please check out silver heat reflective tarps. they are commonly used in green houses. they are really very good at keeping a vehicle or crate cool.
Many times our search dog must wait for an area to be deemed safe prior to entering a collapsed structure, i throw the tarp over the van and you can not believe how mush cooler it keeps the dogs. My tarp is 70 % heat reflective

Where do you find them at?

I definitely need to get some of those as well, my guys do OK just by keeping everything open and parking the front of the car towards the sun with a sun shield, but on a day like yesterday the tarps were a must. I was really worried that a dog was going to overheat in the car yesterday. Most people were smart and left non competing dogs home at least. Heading out now for another fun day in the sun!

Most places that carry any sporting/camping goods will have them. I got the last ones at RiteAid. They are often advertised as heat reflective to keep the heat in if you get lost. There are some better, heavier ones that are more like a tarp with the relective on one side and "tarp" on the other. Reflective side out to keep the vehicle cooler. Those work as a regular tarp also for those of us in the NW where there is a bit of rain.........

So when you put them over your crate do you put the heat reflectant part out also? That's a great idea.

Monster Dog Equipment sells something they were calling Shady Dog. I have one that is a perfect cover over an extra large crate and it's amazing how much cooler it stays inside the crate. I'm not sure what they have in the way of availablity, but they had been able to make this in different sizes when I got mine from them. I know they had ones they made to fit perfectly over the widows of their vehicle. Contact them to see what they have available. It's definitely worth it!
Here's a picture of the one I have, but as I said, I believe they can make them in different sizes...

You can get these at any hiking store such as REI or probably even LL Bean or Bass Outlet, they are usually reffered to as emergency blankets, space blankets or heatsheets or something similar. I bought mine from REI for $8.00 or so a few years back.
Here is one from LLBean called a Heatsheet
Here are two different ones, less expensive
They do work very well!!!
