HI all, Thanks so much for the pryaers and concern. I jsut got an email from Brain tha Frisco Bodie was still in San Francisco and was found and is OK. Brian had emailed me 2 hours ago saying the cops were on the way to take him somewhere to see if it was Bodie. I don't know the details yet, but the important part is he is home and is asafe!!! Again, THANK YOU all for you thoughts, help and concern!...Jackie Athon( Bodies' breeder in San Diego)

That's great! This is the second GSD I know of in the last month or so that has been taken from a fenced yard. He too was returned home safe and sound. I guess we need to keep our dogs under lock and key these days.

Jackie,
I am so glad to hear there was a happy ending.
But, it is really creepy to think that someone went into their yard and took him. I live just north of San Francisco.
Hopefully, the fact that my pup is 85 pounds now and has a very deep bark, makes him less of a target. Still, I worry.

Blitzen,
No lie, I literally lock my kennels now. My dogs mean a lot to me and I would hate for someone to walk off with them.
In our area, it's been told they are going around stealing the dogs to sell to laboratories for extra money now. This has probably been going on for a while other places but, first we've heard of it around here.

Michele, if your dog is apt to go with a stranger, he is at risk no matter how large he is. The GSD I mentioned before was an adult and he was taken along with his buddy, a GSD mix, also an adult. Both are very social dogs who ended up being saved by a neighbor after they ran up on her front porch begging to be allowed to come inside. They were being chased by men in a pick up truck; it's assumed they broke away from the crooks and started to run. We are in a recession and people are desperate for money. Stealing a dog and selling it for $50 would be a big incentive for most thieves. Also, there is the lunatic fringe that steal dogs to bait fighters and other horrors. Better safe than sorry, never let your dog out of your sight and padlock your gates.

What great news! Fill us in on the details when you get them. There was an article in the newspaper awhile back about people stealing dogs in the Missoula, MT area also. Hard to comprehend in my neck of the woods. I am "coming out of the closet" and going to try for a CD this month. I would like to bring along my female but won't because she would be left alone in the van in the parking lot. Seems like a dog show where dogs are being left alone would be a likely target. It may be to hot by then anyway, but today it feels more like fall than spring!

I'm so glad this puppy was found and returned. Big time Kudos to the police for finding the pup. Do you know the particulars on how they found him? It is really frightening to think how easy it would have been for this stolen pup to never have been recovered.
I am to the point where I don't leave pups out unsupervised in my yard for fear of this exact scenario. I also lock my gates even with adult dogs in the yard, and don't even like to leave them out alone for long periods either.
