Hello. My dog has worn a rolled leather collar all the time. Yes, it has done quite the number on her neck fur and furhas broken off in the area. Quite ugly.
I know many do not have collars on in the kennel or home...but she is in and out of the house (no kennel) all the time and there are no fences. I guess it was for peace of mind.
But..now it is too unsightly. How long would one estimate it would take to "grow back" if we were not to use a collar except for training?
TIA

Get a proper sized fur saver collar from someone who sells Herm Sprenger collars. This way you can have a collar on the dog and not tear up the fur. For damaged fur to grow back depends, of course, on how bad the damage is, but it can take many months if it is as described. You would be better off to have simply used a flat nylon 1 inch with a metal buckle. Rolled collars are not great for the reason you have discovered and have no use for training anyway.

Thanks Hodie. We do indeed have a fursaver collar for shows and trials...but it gets limited use. I didn't want it on in the house when I wasn't there in case it could be a choking hazard. It looks like it could be a few months before all is well again with the fur.... Is no one worried about the fursaver being a choking hazard though?
