If you want to certify, these are the guys to go to. I believe they are the most

widely recognized association for Accelerant dog proficiency testing.

Small world!  I'm glad you posted the question because I was curious about where to find information resources on that topic as well.  Please do share if you find some good stuff.

Yvette-

I haven't gotten the response that I was looking for...mostly just other kennels who have dogs but when I contact them I get nothing.

I want to concentrate on the training myself aspect and not on certification or buying from another kennel. I have a couple of nice upcoming litters planned and am looking to donate a puppy and then train the foundation work as I did for my drug dogs. I have 2 departments in line for dogs.

I can't speak for anyone other then myself, but the people I know who do this, including myself,

are under contract by an insurance company. The information about training is guarded and

only trusted people who will not give out the information are brought into the programs. It is not

like drug or bomb dogs where departments train their own dogs, or there are big kennels who

train the dogs and you buy one from them. The secrets are closely guarded, so I doubt there

would be anyone to come forward with the information you seek. Sorry, we are a very close knit

and loyal bunch.

What I am looking for is basic foundation training information....I am not looking for information on the training of the acceralants themselves. Things you would be looking for a possible canine candidate to do or pass if you would put them in your training program at between 6 - 10 months.

I have trained multiple drug & police dogs but wasn't sure if the training would be the same. They need to be passive alert, correct?

I train with a lot of drive building exercises, extensive socialization, different environments, strange people, animals, noises and surfaces at varying times of the day or night. Basic puppy obedience excercises are taught with praise, food and ball/toy. I start puppy area tracking at 6 weeks with food. We also train straight line tracking, wooded area, vehicle and building searches. We train in tight enclosed spaces and wide open spaces including large storage buildings that echo. I train my dogs on a varying schedule. I don't train only on Tuesday and Sunday but all 7 days. I may train twice at only 20 mins. on Monday skip Tuesday and train once for 45 minutes on Weds.
