Hi, I just wanted to post that we had been searching for a puppy for a while talking to many breeders. Most breeders we spoke to were very helpful and genuinely seem to care for the breed but for one reason or another the puppy search continued. We were looking for a family companion. Our requirements were good temperament and showline, even though we are not planning on showing. It was common sense that getting any puppy is a roll of the dice but we firmly believed that we were minimizing the risk by talking to and interviewing breeders and getting the pedigree of the puppies, ie parents with good temperaments, health, etc. So in our search we found a breeder in Germany, http://www.waterkant-park.de/uk/index.htm, who recently had puppies. We mailed and spoke to Gerda who could speak english. The thought of buying a puppy that you have not met prior was uneasy but Gerda answered all our questions and sent us updated pictures almost daily. We decided to send the money and get the male puppy. Gerda kept us updated daily and went through Gradlyn kennels for shipping from Frankfurt (which by the way was a 5 hour drive for them). We received confirmation from Gradlyn and went to pick up the puppy. We were nervous about what to expect but when the puppy arrived, we could not have picked out a puppy better than ours. He has the best temperament with our children and everyone in general. I don't know if all German Shepherd puppies are like this but this puppy being almost 10 weeks old is very mellow and affectionate not to mention how beautiful he is.
We took a risk of buying an import puppy and the thought of sending money overseas was uneasy. But after all is said and done, we got a great puppy and working with Gerda at von der Waterkant was a good experience. We have read some horror stories about buying puppies overseas and even domestically but I also firmly believe good breeders should be mentioned for their integrity.

What a great story so many time you don't hear about the good ones!
So what did you decide on naming your new puppy?
and do you have pictures of the beautiful boy to share?

Thank you for testifying to the honesty of the breeder you dealt with, and I am glad to see that they dealt with you so fairly. I wish we saw more of that on here, as good exchanges happen often. But like EK says, we mostly only see the deals that went wrong on the PDB.

Thanks and this message board itself has been very helpful. Our puppy surprises everyone at how calm, well mannered and of course how handsome he is. We didn't realize when first looking at the German Shepherds, the various types and differences but this message board answered many questions.

Maverick,
So glad to hear you had a good experience AND posted about it :) I made sure I did the same when I got Galan and was pleased with him. It makes it SO much easier for people thinking of importing to hear about the GOOD breeders instead of ONLY the ones people were unhappy with! Enjoy your pup!
