I'm not good at reading elbows - but the hips look fine to me - passing at least, I'd guess "Good".

How old is the dog? Best guess on hips - excellent. Elbows no clue. Not sure how to read them.

The only thing I can read on  elbow xrays is the UAP and at least for my old eyes the pictures are too small for me to see if it's attached or not.

Blitz...Paul is at work and has asked me to answer you. He is 11 months now and these were his prelims. I think he was around 8 months (?) when they were taken. I haven't asked Paul what the prelim report said (I was too busy trying to figure out how to post pictures LOL).

left hip looks to be slightly less in the socket and the ball is a bit larger than the opposite side. (remember, image is reversed) I would guess a "good OFA rating. Elbows look fine to me. sarah

8 mo is too early on elbows.  if you do the ofa's at 2 yrs, you'll know for sure by then.

His pelvis is titled a bit, that's why one side looks a bit deeper and the head looks large. It would be hard to find hips with deeper sockets and a tighter fit on any dog of any breed. I'm interested in knowing what OFA said.

Thanks for the replies. X-rays were not sent in to OFA. I think the breeder and her vet were pleased and wanted to make sure he could be worked until 2 yr old OFA'a were submitted. My vet was pleased also.

Thanks Jen and thanks for the replies.

I see very deep-seated femoral balls and a very substancial hip socket coverage. I dare say this boy may be in the 3% that achieve O.F.A. "Excellent." in regards to his hips. These are among the best that I have ever seen.

The elbows? I can't help you there. They appear to be clear and the bones are 100% united. The O.F.A. makes a very in-depth examination of elbows because they are more difficult to grade.

I feel it is safe to work this young male, but i would be cautious and dose him with a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement at least until he has his final examination, as the presence of even tiny arthritic nodes can fail even an excellent set of hips or passing set of elbows.

Congratulations,

Bob-O
