Kaffirdog

by Kaffirdog on 20 May 2008 - 07:05

Anyone had any personal experience of this?  It is apparently appeared in UK and spreading.  Anyone had a dog with it  who can tell me what symptoms they had and how well they recovered after treatment?  I understand it can be caught by eating smails, but is there any other way it can be contracted?

Is this really so rare that nobody on this board has any experience of it?  I know it is not as exciting a topic as the ones where everyone is tearing each other to shreds, but some first or even second hand info would be helpful since I haven't been able to find anything much about recovery, especially from neurological damage.

Margaret,

I have never heard of a case in dogs.......sorry!?    I have heard about it in Cattle & Horses.

I do know that it has similar signs to... "heart disease, kennel cough, trachea problems...etc"

Roundworms, Whipworms can cause some of the same signs of coughing if they pass through the intestines/stomach and "float" about the body.

The medicine most used for Lungworms is Panacur.

I'm sorry ,....my personal experience is "null" when it comes to Lungworms..........maybe someone else can shed a better light.

Apparently the intermediate host is the snail. Main host is the fox. Main symtom is coughing. Go to:

www.newmaldenvets.com/noticeboard

You should seek veterinary attention right away.
