I had a litter of puppies 8 months ago, and it was obvious at an early age that one of the puppies had a different coat. By 8 weeks of age he was very "poofy". He was donated to a pet/potentional SAR home.
Due to some new life changes the owner returned the 8 month old puppy back to me. I have never seen a long coated GSD pup except when full grown, and have never had one in my 2 litters until now. He is 8 months old, has the feathering around the ears....and the rest of his body is very soft and "poofy" It's not long at all. At what age if he is indeed a long coat does their hair finish growing to the full length/coat.. Or would this be considered a "plush"? I guess I pictured him to have longer hair when I picked him up.....or does it just take awhile for the coat to finish?
Just for my own knowledge....I will post some pictures below the quality isn't very good...its raining outside and I didn't have anyone to help me! Thank you in advance.

Thank you....he looks a lot like Bannan..just poofy..LOL. And darker. If you think of someone ideal that would be interested let me know! My manager is really interested but I"m not sure its the BEST situation......very large amount of property but not fenced in and he'd just be an outside dog/pet. I want something more for him =) He's very sweet....and FAT ....lol, need to put him on a diet.

Nice looking pup. I remember when my Chaos looked like that. He's 2 now and his coat looks wonderful.

lol - I dont think being an LSC has as much to do with the length of the coat as it does with the feathers around the ears. There are some stock dogs that have more length to their coat than my LSC bitch O.o The other thing is it takes forever for the LSC to come in full, unless (I'm told) the dog lives outside in the winter.

There seems to be varying degrees of being coated in GSDs. Yes, he's coated, but not the 'longest' I've ever seen. Handsome fella.
I kinda look at it like this-I've produced one long coat(solid black) in my 10 years of being a fancier of the breed. I would much rather produce a 'coated' pup than a cryptorchid or dysplastic pup any day of the week. At least for the most part, the coat is a cosmetic issue, not a health issue. Best wishes getting a nice home for him.
