I know there are a lot of threads abut ears standing or not. If a puppy at 10 months has his ears standing but still rather soft (the tops sometimes flap a little in movement), what are the chances that they will become firm? In this case the ears came up late at 5 months, then went down, one was up again by 8 months, the other not until 9 months. They are rather big ears, and a little on the thin side.

Weak ears can be manifested by simply not standing, by flopping in the middle, or being floppy at the tips. The chances now that these will firm up at this age, especially if the leather is thin, are not terribly high but it could still happen. At best, when the dog runs or moves, you will likely always see the tips flopping a bit.  The SV judges I have dealt with have always noted this in shows and it is considered to be a fault.

My own personal opinion is that such ears do disqualify a dog from breeding consideration, unless it possesses other extremely valuable and strong attributes.

Good luck.

Give it a little more time.

I have a East German lines bitch that will be two in September.  She is big boned with big thick ears.  Her one ear was not up at 7 months.  I glued the tips together using Tear Mender Glue in the shape of a teepee leaving the bottom unglued.  They stayed glued for about three weeks.  When the glue wore off the ear stod for a day and again fell.  We went through this process three times.  After the third glueing, the ear finally stood on its own.  It flops a little now when she runs, but it stays up.  When she is not in motion, they look perfect.  Bottom line, they stand.  If they are not firm, at least they stand and be thankful for that!
