Is it possible to name a kennel out of Germany with the same  name as another  Kennel at Germany

Would you want someone using your kennel name ?  After all the hard work you had put in to it?

Kennel owners residing in Germany will register them with the SV. The SV in turn will protect this name as long as the owner actively breeds. This protection will cease with the owner's death, unless there are heirs who inherited the kennel. The earliest a kennel name may be used by somebody else is 30 years after its last registration. You can find this rule in the SV Breeding Regulations under paragraph 2.3.

When East and West Germany united, there were a few double kennel names. The SV solved this problem by adding "(Ost)" or "(West)' behind the name. Prominent example: von der Grafenburg (Ost) and von der Grafenburg (West). My own kennel name was also taken by somebody from East Germany. Now, the SV defines this by "vom Silbersee (Ost)" and "vom Silbersee (USA)", when publishing our dogs by name in the surveys, show news or stud publications.

What I do find tacky is when breeders outside of Germany use a famous name from Germany as their own for advertisement purposes.
