I am worried to death. I had my favorite kitten spayed a couple of days ago and she's horrible with fever. She's at the vets now and they said they'd put her on fluids and give her an antibiotic. Then check why she's with fever.
I failed to find out what antibiotic they would be giving her and I was wondering what some of the choices they might make so when I call them (now in the morning) I can be a bit educated on some of these antibiotics. I don't know why I'm compelled to know but I just need to. I'm worried to death about my cat and just want to know what she might be facing in the emergency care.
I appreciate any information you can give me and if anyone has ever experienced this before in a cat/kitten.

They could use
Amoxicillan (general type of antibiotic)
Clavamox (is equvalent to Augmentin (sp??) in humans) which is a glorified Amoxicillan
Baytril (could use for just a couple days then will have to switch to something else) - one of the strongest on the market
Cephalexine - used for skin, bladder infections, etc
The Vet is probably doing injections at this point. Was she tested for Feline Leukemia/Aids? If she's negative for those two then it is most likely that her sugery was not sterile enough causing an infection.

Most likely Amoxicillan or Clavamox. With IV support and antibiotics she should be fine. Sounds like you kept a close eye on her. Good job. Cause of infection could run anywhere from the surgery not being sterile enough to her having a low grade sickness beforehand that was missed (id ask what her temp. was pre-op to see if its elevated) to her picking it up from another cat/litterbox. Best of luck and I hope she's good as new in no time.
