What type of facility is needed to house a newly imported SchH titled young female GSD, say 3 years old, from Germany?

Does one tend to want to escape by scaling and jumping fences? Is so, for how long before one settles in and becomes a part of the pack and no longer wants to escape? So would a rather small ( say 6' by 12') enclosure with sealed top better than a larger run and relying only on the height of the fence?

What mental state would an adult SchH titled female be in right upon arrival?

How many months does it generally take to resume working her?

Thanks

I would say to expect a young, lively, and intelligent GSD female and prepare for that just as you would for one that has no training of any kind and provide the degree of security that one would for any loved pet.

She will probably be uneasy for some time, and that is very normal and has nothing to do with her training. But she should settle in at least as well as any other type of GSD,  and probably better. A Schutzhund-trained dog should have the mental development that is proven and cannot be shy of their surroundings.

And she is conditioned to seek direction from you-her owner. Will she be any worse for escape attempts? I do not think so, but she may "hunt" for home for a while. If she was raised in both the kennel and the house it should be an easy addition to your family.

I was at a Schutrzhund seminar once and very well remember one (1) thing that was said to me, "A Schutzhund-certified dog must be capable of performing correct exercises in any place or environment-whereever that may be." That statement speaks of the high level of personal confidence that such a dog must possess.

Good Luck!

Thanks Bob-O as I am also in the process of importing a ScH and IPO titled female.  My worry was her not understanding English or German but saying what you did she should fit in nicely.
